A few years ago I created a large number of races for my Empires setting. About half of them did not have very many particularly interesting qualities and I thought, what is the point of including a race unless it has interesting qualities?
One of them was the Trusk, which was a four-legged race of canids. They were one of the more unique races, but the problem was one, they were dull, and two, even if they weren't dull, they were limited in use because they had no thumbs.
Recently, I thought, what else has no thumbs but doesn't care? SPARKLEDOGS!
That's right, Trusk are now Sparkledogs, with names like Cherryblossom and SevenfoldSamurai and Ninja1448, they are all unique and special flowers. They can function JUST FINE without thumbs, and as part of their obsession with uniqueness they have incredibly erratic fashions. There is also a cult, with a long history of apologetics, wherein they believe themselves to actually be or possess the souls of animals, fey, or fictional characters.

Is this sparkle dog phenom exclusive to Deviantart? I've seen a few of these pictures making fun of them but very few 'serious' examples here.
Which isn't to say there aren't ridiculous over the top super special weeaboo characters on FA, I just haven't seen any that are also quadrupedal dogs.

Sparkledogs are like furries except almost always quad. I don't think the wolf-art contingent completely identifies with furries so they don't always show up here.
Most of the artists you see here who do quads tend to have actually interesting characters, as you will more likely see the better artists that do quads like
vani and
thewhitedemon/
daggerleonelli will have certain features in common with them but generally don't go over-the-top.

didn't know one could poke more ridiculous fun at sparkledogs (and any other qadrupds which do things you'd need functional hands for... in the wilderness), buit obviously it's possible.
also, interesting concept. ^^ the upper one has a sword with a very interesting bladeguard... as though someone would pray to the crowd or something.
the lower one is awfully swift. run, Forrest, run! ^^

Where is the light stick on his tail? Where is his entourage of minstrels to constantly inform everyone of how awesome and handsome and invincible and pink he is? Where is his pen, with which he uses his nonexistent opposable thumbs to write execrable poetry and create more sparkledogs?
This is unacceptable. It doesn't even have iridescent colors that are nonexistent in the animal kingdom except on hummingbirds and the residents of Castro, San Francisco.
