Yup, you got it right! I haven't fully fleshed out the details but I'm going to limit it to rivalry, not full on enmity, with skirmishes by the more hotheaded youngsters at worst, and say that after Ke ascended the elders of both clans agreed to put aside their differences to become equals under his protection.
