Nox knew this was coming, there was no way to overlook the adhoc photostudio setup in the lobby of the guildhouse. Nonetheless he had hoped to dodge this, by simply spending the day within the arcane lab. He even tried to time his lunch-break in a way, so he could slip away and back in without being bothered to participate in this. He did not even took off the data-glasses, as he needed them in the lab anyway, and thought it would disqualify him further as photo-subject.
When he went outside, it was Cels turn to pose within the studio, the unicorn being just as hesitant to do this as Nox was. When he came back from his lunch, he found the studio to be empty, but he was not given an opportunity to sneak past it, before his fellow guild-member Nathan asked him to pose for ad-material.
"So why are we even doing this?", the mirror-fox asked, attempting to follow the gestures of the photographer.
"The city-funded contracts will only carry us so far. Better to remind everyone we are still sticking around when things go sour."
"I wondered why you still call yourself a guild?", the feline photographer asked. "Now please, your signature magicka."
Attempting to participate in a conversation, posing for the photo and casting his magic was a little to much for the mirror-fox, so an odd vulpine yipp escaped his muzzle instead of answer.
"Tradition." Nathan replied.
"Taxes", Charlie replied, the raccoon currently staffing the reception of the guild.
"Well, and that." both of them added simultaneously, complementing each others replies.
"I see", the photographer acknowledged, then perked his ears upon realising what kind of magic Nox was casting. "Wait, is that forerunner-magicka? The super-rare variety?"
"Not the super-rare one, but exotic enough." Charlie explained with a grin. "We think it is the boon the rain-goddess gave to him, but, he won't tell."
"It is not like it is impossible to learn. And for me, it just feels natural", Nox explained, while spanning up the arcane protection circle in his hands. "It is also slightly exhausting, so could we please go on?"
"Yes of course, Mr. Teacher", the feline replied and sneered a little.
"I told you this briefcase make you look like a teacher", Charlie chuckled.
"... it is also incredibly resistant to chthonic drift...", the mirror-fox hissed through clenched teeth, attempting not to disrupt his pose, his protection circle still starting to flicker and fizzle for a moment.
With a few gestures on a holographic menu, the photographer chose a urban background for the studio and then pushed the rather prominent trigger-button on the camera-device, featuring multiple objective lenses, a requirement given by the fact that it could be a bit hard to capture visuals of magic without a bit of preparation.
Nox wondered about the sudden silence for a moment, but the now prominent smell of ozone probably had been enough to tell everyone present that the mirror-fox had put a little too much power into the magic circle.
"All done!", the feline confirmed and coughed a little.
"Okay. You are welcome... and sorry about the ozone. As said, it is exhausting and, well, requires quite some power.", Nox said and closed his hand to dispell the magic circle in an instant.
He left the lobby towards the arcane lab again, it took him a few minutes to realise that this photo maybe would be displayed on ad-screens all across the city and on the net soon...
This particular piece is set some time before the prologue of his main-story, we will soon find out whether they really released this as an ad for their cursebreaker guild. It is not that he is shy, however he considers himself just the average cursebreaker and just wants to go about his profession as best as he can. Being a model for an ad however is an entirely different thing.
