grew up in the woods in the mountains of northern california.
going for long walks by myself in places like that from before i graduated kindergarten.
WISH i lived there now.

holocsu, wakadok, and solokok, the bermuda triangle of the mother lode,
otherwise known as auburn, grass valley, and colfax, although the whole west slope from about 1500 ft elevation on up to the top. north to cleo/grey egal (sierra valley), south to murphies/toulami. placer, nevada, sierra, el dorado and alpine counties.

started kindergarten in truckee, lived most of my growing up years around colfax.
for now i'm stuck down here in this valley in roseville. never lived in grass valley/nevada city, but always wanted to. used to walk the old narrow gauge right of way before they build rollins lake. and yes, i've even walked the 26 miles from colfax to nevada city in less then a day. my feet were glad for the ride back though.

pretty trails to recomend include the stevens out of colfax, and the tevis cup from auburn up the hill. also the whole area around iowa hill forest hill.
also dutch flat/alta/gold run. bear valley. north columbia/north san juan.

ananda/malachoff diggins. milk ranch road.

my alternative universe looks like those, with the addition of solar powered computers, furry hippies, and little people sized trains. (and the subtraction of automobiles and most uses of burning things other then to cook and keep warm in the winter when the grid is down do to accumulated snowfall)
