A fun playdate! Made for a cute fella on Telegram
The bunny watched as the trees flew by in the window, the sun casting a light yellow glow in the car, warming it up in contrast to the cool morning wind. Elly bounced up and down eagerly in his seat, counting the houses until they reached the one he remembered his friend telling him he lived at. School was out for break and the two boys' parents had arranged a playdate for them to spend the afternoon together, Elly's parents wanted to go shopping and needed somewhere for Elly to enjoy the day while they were gone. The car pulled into a familiar road, beautiful red and orange trees lining the sides. The bunny started hopping in his seat as he pressed his face to the window, already seeing the house, "We're almost there mommy!" He softly cheered.
His mother nodded as she started slowing down. "Yes we are honey, you know how to behave." She softly reminded Elly as the car came to a stop, the bunny looked out the window to see his friend, Austin the calico kitten, eagerly waving as the car pulled up. "Alright, go have fun, I'll pick you up in a few hours Elly." His mother unlocked the door, Elly opened it, jumping out and closing the door, happily skipping over to the porch. The car drove off as Elly ran over to Austin, hugging him, both of their tails wagged as the excitement of spending a day together overtook them. The pair went inside, hopping on the couch as they eagerly turned on the TV, there were toys strewn all over the floor and an easel with various paintings of abstract shapes standing in a corner.
The bunny and kitten happily swung their legs as they switched to the channel with their favorite cartoons, giggling as they watched the antics of the characters. "Austin?" Elly asked, turning to his friend as he bobbed his head side to side, "Yeah?" The kitten replied, still attentively watching the television. "Whaddya wanna do later?" He asked, Austin turned around and put a paw to his chin, playfully humming as he thought "Hmmmmm, ooh! I got this new game called twister!" He sat up as he remembered, standing up and hopping around in excitement, "So what you do is you twy to put your paws on the right color…" He mimicked how you play the game, getting down on all fours, "And you have to try to put them in the right colors, and not get twisted!" He continued, moving his paws and legs into random until he eventually lost his balance and tumbled to the carpet, both of them giggling. The kitten got up and sat back on the couch, both of them going back to watching the cartoon, which was starting to come to an end. Austin's dad walked over as entering the living room, beaming with a smile as he winked at them "How are you two boys doing?" He asked, holding a plate of small cookies, "Good!" They both exclaimed, eyes fixed on the plate as it was set in front of them. "Thanks daddy!" Austin said as the cubs looked at the plate and both grabbed a cookie, eagerly munching on them.
A plate full of cookies and a cartoon episode later, the two cubs were sitting on the floor, looking and rummaging through the toys to decide their next activity. A tower of blocks stood not too far from them, Elly spotted it, a mischievous smile forming on his face, "Hey Austin, you see those blocks over there?" He could barely hold in his laughter as he quickly got up, running through the tower, causing them to all tumble down, causing quite the racket. They both laughed as Austin ran over, the bunny and cat working together to stack them back up. "Ooh my turn, my turn!" Austin called as he walked back to get some distance, running over through the blocks, causing them to fly everywhere. Eventually, Elly got an idea! Oh yes, a wonderful idea! "Hey Austin, you remember those dinosaur costumes we got on Halloween?" Elly asked, panting in between words. The kitten took a moment to think about it, but instantly caught his friend's drift as he nodded quickly, a giggle escaping as he thought of two dinosaurs destroying blocks. The duo ran to Austin's room, quickly rummaging through their toy chest before they found the two dinosaur costumes. Elly and Austin quickly got them on, looking at each other and nodding, eagerly running back into the living room, "Rawwwr!" Austin and Elly screamed as they ran through the towers of blocks, crashing through them. They blew at the blocks, pretending to be breathing fire, they didn't care if dragons were the ones that did it, the two still found it fun to be causing so much destruction. Pretending to be dinosaurs was fun until eventually, they felt all the buildings had been toppled, all the fire breathed, and all of the tiny cars crushed, so back to the couch they went, hopping on it as they huffed and puffed from all the playing. A few blocks were missing under chairs and tables from all the toppling and chaos, they had caused quite the mess.
They had played all of the afternoon, Elly yawned as the room glowed from the bright orange sunlight peeking through the blinds. "Elly?" Austin sleepily asked, also yawning, "You think it's nap time?" Barely able to finish the question as he rested his head on the bunny. The bunny slowly nodded as he too, starting dozing off on top of his friend. Austin started purring as they hugged and cuddled, trying to get comfortable in order to nap together. A parent walked into the room, seeing the two cubs napping together, turning off the lights and the tv to let them rest. Elly dreamed about being a dinosaur again, destroying cities he remembered visiting, smiling in his sleep as he pictures himself destroying everything. Austin meanwhile, dreamed about being a mayor, instantly being able to put buildings where he wanted and make fun decisions, like instituting a lawfully required nap time during work and school. Together, the kids dreamed away the afternoon, the clock ticked until it was about seven or so, not long until their playdate ended.
Elly's nose twitched as he slowly stirred, slowly blinking to see his friend still napping on his arm. He looked up and around the room, a soft purple moonlight could be seen through the window, his ears popped up as he remembered the playdate. "Austin, wake up!" He whispered as he petted his friend's head softly, "Hmm...? What Elly?" The kitten replied, eyes still closed. "We still have to play twister!" Elly whispered urgently, hopping off the couch, hearing this made Austin instantly hop up, a small meow! escaping him as he remembered the game. Elly turned on a lamp in the corner of the room, watching his friend remember, "Oh yeah! We gotta play twister!" He said excitedly as he ran to his room, rummaging through the toy chest, eventually, he returned holding the box. The two boys looked at the box, marveling over at the pictures of kids playing on the back. They quickly took the top off the box and Elly grabbed the instructions and the spinner while Austin worked on spreading out the mat, moving aside all of the blocks strewn about the floor. Elly placed the spinner on the ground next to it and tapped Austin on the shoulder, "Hey, read these with me." The two sat down, thoroughly reading the instructions, a lot more interested in reading them than beginning the game.
Once they had finally finished reading through the entire booklet, they decided to get to playing. "Alright, I'll go first!" Elly claimed as he ran over to the mat, putting his two feetpaws on the yellow and blue dots, "Do the spinner!" He asked as he waited, "Alright, right paw...green!" Austin happily called, stepping onto the mat himself. The kitten's dad heard the boys were up and playing, walking in to check on them "How're you guys doing?" He asked, "Good." Elly replied, focusing on holding his position, Austin thought about it for a moment before having an idea! "Hey daddy, could you come over and pway the spinner?" He asked, pointing at it. "Sure thing!" His dad cheerily said, moving over to the spinner as Austin got in position on the mat. "Alright! Left paw on red." Both of the cubs struggled for a moment before they eventually planted it, Elly wobbled a little as he tried to keep his balance. They both giggled as they bumped into each other, Dad called out the next turn, "Left foot on green!" Both of the boys grunted as they did their best to move their feetpaws to the right location. Elly went "Yes!" once he was able to complete the turn, waiting on Austin, who had a much easier time doing it. The cubs played, turn after turn as they got slightly harder, their arms and legs trembling as they had a hard time trying to stay upright. Eventually, they became entangled, the cubs giggling as they kept bumping into each other, determined not to tumble down. Though it was only delaying the inevitable, "Right paw...yellow!" Elly did his best to move his paw over Austin's leg to touch the yellow dot. "So...close...just a wittle farther!" He struggled, he barely managed to put his small paw on the dot, "Yes! I did it" he cheered, although it was a short celebrated victory. The imbalance just became too much as Elly fell on his rump, the commotion making the kitten fall on his side, a small "oof!" heard. It took a moment for both of them to process what had happened before they looked at each other...and started laughing, Austin's dad set down the spinner as he joined in, chuckling, "Looks like you both had some fun." He remarked, nodding as he spoke.
The clock read 8:47pm, the adult cat got up, starting to walk out of the room when suddenly, his phone began to ring. "Oh hello, is this Elly's mother?" Elly's ears poked up when he heard his name, his smile disappearing as he looked over at the clock, looking at the floor as he realized his playdate was soon coming to an end. Austin put a paw on Elly's shoulder, offering a smile and a pat, "Don't worry, you can come back some other day." Austin tried reassuring him. Elly slowly nodded as he walked over to Austin's dad, "Do I have to go home now?" He asked, clear sadness in his voice, the cat smiled softly as he shook his head "Actually...your mother just told me she didn't mind if you spent the night." Elly excitedly looked back at Austin, who was sharing the same expression. "Weally? Awesome!" Elly rejoiced while Austin ran over, another idea ready to be asked. "Alwight, so what if we made a pillow fort?" To which his father shrugged and walked over to the couch, helping the boys disassemble all of the large pillows, making a small shed with a tiny entrance, they laughed as they kept trying to get the roof to stay, adding a pillow on the inside to help it stay up. It was perfectly topped off with a blanket, and the inside filled with the boys' pillows so that they could spend a cozy night inside. After a few more minutes of contraction, a piece of paper reading Fort Elly and Austin, the two boys took one last look at their fort from the outside, Austin's dad next to him "Alright boys, have a good night." He whispered as they climbed inside, laying down in the soft pile of blankets and pillows. "Goodnight!" They called from inside as the room went dark...it wasn't much longer until the two had gone to bed, tuckered out from a long day of playing.
The end.
