I saw a handsome vision,
A duck I’ve never seen.
So tall and fair and elegant.
Feathers clean and preen.
He sat upon the shore,
Not a word was said–
No matter my persuasion
The bank he stayed, instead.
I quacked about so merrily,
How gaily I splashed.
There he watch, my royal king–
Smirk under feathered ‘stach.
Clearly he was that refined,
To insist on staying dry.
So to earn his noble favor,
The same behavior I applied.
“Will you come tomorrow?”
I meekly did beseech.
“Meow,” was the simple answer–
That of sovereign speech.
But I was busy dreaming
Of our future– come what may.
That I couldn’t help but inquire
If he planned to stay.
“Will we raise a happy home,
Upon thine regal nest?”
“Mrrp.” He chirped, most amused,
I read it full of zest.
I fluffed my breast, so impressed,
By beau’s romantic pride.
I couldn’t help but nod my head
As I rested by his side.
“How lucky fowl I must be,
To win such being’s favor.
When shall we be wed?”
I asked– the question I did savor.
Here the bird, he squint his eyes–
Mischief in his smile.
Graceful long tail-feathers wagged–
Teasing all the while.
“Right now?” I asked, an eager flap.
“Or maybe tomorrow still?”
“Rowr” was his reply,
My heart dancing its quadrille.
“Tonight it is!” I sighed aloud,
As the sun was soon to set.
Knowing all the while
the night’d be better yet.
