Firesiders Passage Promo: JD
Who else continuously makes growling noises when they draw monsters?
New promo idea! A promo for me is an art series that denotes a conceptual IP. They're great for getting stuff out of my head, figuring out what groups of characters be and how they do. Promos were initially just done on one canvas featuring headshots or whatever, but this'll be a series showcasing the Firesiders' current designs and abilities in separate pieces, each one pictured in an abstract, slightly bland hallway with a blinding light at the far end and... it seemed cool in my head.
Art for JD and Apples in one drawing finally exists now, and gersh dernit, that's a victory right there.
JD (Jasmine Dawn) Wells is the Faith Keeper, aka the Shield (seeks Trust and Fellowship; resists Doubt and Betrayal). JD's Fire appears as orange sparks/fireworks. Through the control and influence of the Panoply, her Fire manifests as an unyielding golem. Keepers are the DigiDestined / Pokemon Trainers of the Firesiders seeing as Keepers don't directly get involved in the fighting. JD herself doesn't have powers, but no one minds because her "shield" is an absolute unit.
Lovingly named "Apples" by JD in order to tone down the intimidation factor, this beast has gone through many iterations, but for important plot reasons he's now a roided-out foo dog made of parchment. Oh snap. A paper tiger. That has thematic implications.
Now I hope to find better ways to indicate his paperiness in upcoming designs. I just don't want to go too origami/geometric looking because he's cooler and easier to draw for me when he's not made up of polygons.
I didn't think to show it here, oops, but Apples is able to set himself on fire, wreathing his head in a fiery, spark-spitting mane. +2 to Intimidation whenever he roars. I'm also quite set on giving Apples a more compact form, the size of a medium dog perhaps, so that no entryway may hinder him from indoor shenanigans.
You didn't ask for it, but HERE IT IS: a few theme songs for these two dorks.
"Alive" by Phil Lober

"Le Chemin" by Raphael Gardiner (You might know why for this one.)
