Sakuri's Bad Dream
He reached out to the darkness, tears blinding him. Even pupils, wide open as they were, couldn't discern the shapes before him. All he knew was that his best friend, feathers rippling in the sharp breeze, was chirping for him to follow. His joints were full of sand, feet affixed firmly to the ground, mouth open to cry but silence, desperate for the avian's touch.
Yet the avian did not follow, did not come near. One blink, another blink, and the feline could finally see his cockatiel friend, warm, inviting eyes and permanent smile -- a lovely feature of his beak's shape -- betraying the bird's intentions.
With a final wave, the cockatiel spun on his back talons, arms out from his side like the wings of an airplane, carrying himself up the hill. The tiger cried out, yet again, silence, begging his friend to come back, watching helplessly as the yellow form shrank, shrank, then disappeared over the hill.
Alone. He was alone.... Alone....
It was late at night when Paladin returned home. The warmth of their home, the lingering smell of a now-cold pizza left out on the counter, broken by the soft whines from the bedroom. Talons quickly carried Paladin to the bedroom, pushing the door open to see Sakuri, curled up in a tight ball, mouth moving slightly to match his frantic cries in his head. It took the bird little time to make up his mind. With the light tug of his talons, and shuffling of feather against fabric, he was pressed up against the whimpering cat.
Sure as magic itself, the avian's presence melted the ice of Sakuri's nightmare, bringing the feline calm for the first time that night. Together they stayed until the sun broke the quiet of the room.
Just a very beautiful piece from
