Because my base feelings of love aren't connected to romance or sex, its something more basic; the simple joy of sharing your life with the one that means more to you than life itself - indeed, without that person, life would be meaningless.

I'm glad that there are others who feel this way. In what verbal teaching I received about love and relationships in my younger days, it always seemed like the ultimate element of a relationship was sex, and it was reserved for The One. (of course this was midwestern American Christian-based, monogamy-based thought). I've seen that it's quite different when you get to the core of the issue; that there are things far, far deeper than sex. I'm very happy for you that you have someone you can share everything with. :) Happy Valentine's Day to both of you.
