They had gotten the letter from their scout only moments before they had to ride out, horse hooves pounding at the hard packed earth like thunder during a storm, as they plundered the countryside toward their destination. They were surprised to find not many men, not much of a threat as they had imagined, but something niggled at the back of Thor's mind like a thorn stuck in his paw. It was Heath, his right hand man, who figured it out first.
'It's a possible diversion tactic, your Majesty."
That little phrase, said in such a calm manner, had Thor rallying his people back onto their horses and back toward the castle; blood and pained cries following their departure. They pressed their horses into the fastest gallop possible until they reached the castle walls-- it was nothing short of a miracle that they didn't find dead guards at the gates. It was a flurry of activity as Thor all but flung himself from his horse, discarding his worn leather cap in a hurry as he rushed into and through the palace.
Guards and handmaids alike pointed him towards the garden, lit up by candles and the full moon when he asked about his lady love-- and there she stood. He skid to a stop, barely catching himself before falling into the small garden river, taking in her beauty for only a moment before he took the leap. Leaping across the river was easy and without preamble, as Gwen turned to scold whomever was interrupting her, Thor fell to one knee and pulled the shorter woman into his arms. All was silent for long moments before he whispered brokenly, so softly a church mouse would struggle to hear.
"I thought I was going to lose you."
