Monsuno of the Magic Kingdom: Chapter 18

Chapter 18: Start of a Secret Friendship
It was an awkward meeting for all in the forest, as the royal children were all face-to-face with the Blue Moon Monsuno from another world. Melody, Garrick, Kathrin, Radelle and Tracy turned to the others to see if they were okay. “Is anyone alright?” Melody asked. “Anything broken?”
“No, we’re fine.” Mainard replied. “The only thing hurt is my pride.” Truth be told, it was hard for him to admit that they were outclassed by the bandits, and his own strength and cunning wasn’t enough. Kathrin was concerned when she saw the hurt look on his face. She was excellent at picking up emotions, and this was no exception.
“Don’t be disheartened, wolf cub.” Boost spoke up, getting his attention. “You showed great courage and strong will when you facing those rats.” “You stood your ground against a foe stronger than you,” He added, grinning. “that alone makes you stronger than any warrior.”
Mainard was surprised and smiled gratefully. “Thank you, sir.” He replied. It was then Luciana squealed in excitement. “This is amazing!!!” She exclaimed. “First the falling stars, then the crater and now...real monsters?!” “It’s one discovery after another!!” She squealed. Before they knew it, she ran up to the Monsuno and began asking all sorts of questions.
“Who or what are you?”
“Where did you come from?”
“How long have you been living here?”
“Are there more of you?”
“How tall are you?”
“Are those real crystals?”
“How can you-Umf!”
She was cut short when Lok placed one of his fingers gently on her mouth. “Slow down, little one.” The White Bear chuckled. “We can only answer so much.” “Sorry...” Luciana replied sheepishly. “I tend to get over excited when it comes to discoveries.”
“Still,” Ping spoke up, “we want to thank you for saving our lives.” “It was our pleasure, young ones.” Long-Fang replied. “We were fortunate to arrive in moment’s time.” “But pray tell, what were you cubs doing in the forest this late at night?” The Great Tiger asked.
“Well,” Azad explained. “we saw some falling stars land into the forest, and we came to investigate.” “When we couldn’t find them, we tried to head back,” he added. “but the bandits attacked us and we had to split up to escape them.”
The Monsuno looked at each other. “Well, little brutha,” Babeon spoke. “We be doin’ the right ting to save ya.” “We be the fallin’ stars you saw in de sky.” The Baboon explained. “We be the ones ya sought to find.”
The royal children were greatly shocked at this revelation. “You are the stars!?” Edgard exclaimed. “How can you have survived such a fall?!” Evo looked amused at this. “Young man,” she crooned. “Do you really we could be hurt that easily?”
“Excuse me, miss...” Jin shyly spoke up. “But, we couldn’t find you in the crater.” “We apologize for that.” Charger replied. "We were hiding in the forest." “Humans aren’t really fond of seeing us, we were hoping to keep our existence a secret before we saw those bandits attack you.” He added.
“Either way, we owe you all our lives” Malak asked. “You saved our lives; if it wasn’t for you, we would have ended up as slaves or worst.” “It be our pleas-s-sure, little s-s-sis-s-ster.” Glow-Blade replied, his three heads bent low. “We be more than happy to teach them bandits a lesson.”
“Speaking of which,” Radelle added, smirking. “why don’t we head back to the crater and teach that Shadow-sneak a lesson?” “Let’s show him what REAL monsters are!” She exclaimed. Melody and most of the royal children smiled at the idea of scaring Shadow-sneak's pants off while Kathrin and Jin were a bit hesitant since it was not in their nature to be malicious.
“Are ye talking about that rat-faced man at the crater?” Batteram asked. “The leader of those bandits?” Garrick nodded. “He calls himself Shadow-sneak.” He replied. “He leads the Red Devils who tried to capture us.” The Great Buffalo snorted. “A fitting name for a rat like him.”
“Please,” Dianne asked. “can you take us back to the crater? We want to teach that mean jerk a lesson.” The Monsuno were rather impressed with the girl’s courage. Not only were these children were not the least bit afraid of them, they were willing to face up to the bandit’s leader. Such courage was rare in children.
Clubber let out a deep, rumbling laugh. “Well now.” The Behemoth explained. “Never before I have met brave warriors at such a young age.” This made the children blush in embarrassment. Clubber turned to Lok. “Chieftain, what do you say?”
The White Bear smiled and nodded his head. “Very well, young ones.” He replied, grinning at the royal children. “Let’s pay this Shadow-sneak a lesson of respect.” “Come, my brothers!” He exclaimed. “Time to show this rat what we are capable off!”
Soon, the Blue-Moon Tribe began to make their way back to crater. Lok, Nite-Stone and Glow-Blade led the way, with Charger, Babeon, Long-Fang, Boost, Batteram and Deep-Six followed behind. Neo-Quickforce, Evo and Sky-fall decided that flying there was not good at the moment so they followed on the ground.
Clubber and Mystic-Blade were the last to follow and at their side were the royal children. “How do you think we are going to explain this to our parents about this?” Kathrin asked Melody, before gesturing to the Blue Moon Tribe. “Especially them?”
Melody sighed. “Don’t worry.” She replied. “I’m sure I will find a way...I hope.”
(Back at the crater’s edge)
Shadow-sneak was pacing around impatiently, wondering what was taking his men so long. “How long does it take to catch children, for heaven's sake?!” He muttered to himself. “Perhaps more rigorous training is in order when they get back. I...” He stopped when he heard footsteps and turned to his right.
Imagine his surprise and delight when he saw Melody coming into view. Though, he was curious on the look of confidence on her face. “Ah, how wonderful to see you again!” He stated, believing his forces had captured the children. “You are resourceful if you can give my men such a hard time in capturing him.”
Melody shook her head a little and replied defiantly. “Thank you for the compliment but me and my friends... we had some help.” Shadow-sneak was a bit puzzled by her defiant attitude, but he shook it off. “So, you decided to give yourself up, now that you’re all alone?” He sneered.
However, he got his answer when all the royal children emerged from the shadows, one by one. By Melody’s left was Tracy, Katrin, Radelle, Luciana and Garrick. To her right appeared Mainard, Edgard, Dianne, Azad, Malak, Ping and Li. All of them were standing in a row in front of the bandit’s leader.
Mainard smirked and stated. “You call yourselves the Red Devils... but we had special help!” That’s when Shadow-sneak saw something emerging from behind the children, and his face slowly took one of fear, awe and shock.
Coming behind Melody was Lok, the Great White Bear and the rest of the Blue-Moon Monsuno. To his left was Neo-Quickforce, Long-Fang, Nite-Stone, Batteram and Evo while to his right was Charger, Boost, Glow-Blade, Deep-Six and Sky-Fall. At the back were Mystic-Blade and Clubber; the Winged-Serpent spread his wings wide while the Behemoth snorted and lowered his head, his horns pointing threateningly at the scared bandit.
“W-what is this?!” Shadow-sneak demanded, backing away slowly in fear at the sight of creatures that he thought only existed in legends. Batteram snorted. “What’s wrong, rat?” He taunted. “Ye courage lost already?” That unnerved the bandit leader even more. “You best be on your way, little man.” Evo added. “Unless you want to be taught a lesson like your friends did.”
Shadow-sneak realized he was now outnumbered, outmatched and outplayed. “No!” He exclaimed. “How is this possible!?” He yelled. “My plan was perfect!!” “I had led King Eric’s soldiers on wild goose chases, evaded the most brilliant strategists and made my fortune as the world’s greatest bandit!!” He ranted. “How can I have been defeated by children and a bunch of wild beasts?!” “This can’t be happening; It’s not real! It’s not real!!”
He stopped when Lok grabbed him by his large white paw and lifted him up until the scared man was at eye level with the White Bear. “I think we’ve heard quite enough of you, rat.” He growled. “I strongly suggest you leave RIGHT NOW, or I’ll consider having you for my dinner.”
“Now, go before I change my mind...” He added, tossing Shadow-sneak away like a rag-doll. The bandit leader landed hard on the ground and staggered to his feet. He knew his only option was to run and figure out to save his fellow bandits, but for now, he had to flee.
As he ran the other way, he turned back and yelled at the gathering. “This isn’t over!!! You have not heard the last of Shadow-sneak!!” As the royal children watched him flee into the forest, smiles grew on each of their faces and they cheered loudly.
Edgard, Dianne, Mainard, Luciana, Garrick , Malak and Azad were the largest; Tracy, Radelle, Ping and Melody were pretty even while Kathrin and Jin had small but honest smiles. The Blue-Moon Tribe were also amused. “Well, that went better than expected.” Evo pointed out.
“MELODY!!”
The children stopped when they heard voices calling for their names and the sound of hoofbeats could be heard at a distance. “What was that?” Nite-Stone asked, as he and the rest of the Monsuno braced to attack. Melody’s eyes widened in surprise when she recognized the voice. “Oh! It’s my dad!” She exclaimed. “He’s here!” This surprised the Monsuno. “Your dad?” Lok asked
The other children also grew surprised when they heard their father’s voices called out their names. “Are they your families?” Deep-Six asked in surprise. “Yes,” Malak replied, cringing. “They’re probably been out searching for us, how are we going to explain this?”
(Meanwhile...)
As Shadow-sneak was fleeing, his mind was all abuzz. “How?!” He muttered darkly. “How could I have been bested by royal brats!?” “And what the heck were those...creatures?!” He added. “No matter! I’ll find my men and get payback for this; the Red Devils will rise again!!”
Sadly for him, he was so caught up in his thoughts that he failed to notice that he ran onto the main dirt road and was blinded by a light shining in his direction. Before he knew it, he was knocked to the ground as a white horse reared up on its legs, kicking and neighing at him. When the light moved away from him a little, he saw a rider holding onto a lantern and it was none other than King Eric!
“Halt! Who goes...? Shadow-sneak?!” Eric cried, shocked to see the leader of the infamous bandits that had been terrorizing the forest for a while. Behind him was a party of 15 people, 9 consisted of the royal fathers, 3 were Fa Mulan, Queen Rapunzel and Sultana Jasmine and the rest were King Eric’s best soldiers who were skilled trackers.
Shadow-sneak cursed a bit and tried to make a mad dash for the forest. “Stop him!” Eric exclaimed, as he turned to the others. “That’s Shadow-sneak!” “Don’t worry!” Rapunzel replied. “He won’t get far!” Taking out a rope, she formed a lasso and whirled about her head. Even without her long golden hair, she still displayed excellent roping skills.
Aiming it carefully at the bandit leader, she threw it through the air and it went around Shadow-sneak's waist. Instantly, the young queen pulled hard and a struggling Shadow-sneak was soon being dragged over to them! “Hah, hah!” Eugene yelled with pride. “That’s my Raps!!” The latter smiled at her husband’s compliment as some soldier dismounted their horses and surrounded him pointing their sabers at him.
“Shadow-sneak!” King Eric declared. “You are under arrest for crimes you and your men have committed against my people!” “Guards, make sure he’s wrapped up nice and tight and escort him back to the dungeon to await trial.” Two guards saluted and tied up the bandit leader, forcing him to stand up.
Soon, the bandit leader was tied to the saddles of one the soldier’s horses. “Don’t worry, your majesty.” The soldier spoke up. “We’ll be sure he gets locked away for good; best of luck on finding the children.” He saluted and the soldiers turned their horses around, trotting back to the palace with their grumbling prisoner in tow.
“Well, we stopped the Red Devils,” Shang spoke up. “but where are the children?” “Honestly!” Jasmine exclaimed, frustration and worry on her face. “Azad and Malak are always running off to who knows where!” “Don’t worry, Jasmine.” Aladdin assured his wife. “I’m sure they’re alright; they survived worst than this.”
“So have Luciana and Garrick.” Eugene pointed out. “I know we’ll find them.” “Let’s start searching where that blue light came from,” Eric added. Just as they were about to turn to the main road, they heard loud voices.
“FATHER!/MOTHER!!”
Eric and Charming held up their lanterns and to the royals’ surprise and great relief to see Melody, coming out from the woods! Following after her were rest of the children. “The children, they’re safe!” Mulan cried out, dismounting from Khan and running over to embrace her daughters tightly.
Soon, all the royals dismounted and embraced their children. “Malak, Azad!” Jasmine cried, as she and Aladdin hugged their children. “Thank Allah, you’re both safe!” Eric hugged his daughter as they cried tears of joy.
“Where have you all been?!” Rapunzel exclaimed as she looked at her children with watery eyes. “We’re all worried sick!” “Are you all alright?” She asked as she and her husband checked them up and down for any sign of harm. “It’s okay, mom.” Luciana replied. “We’re all alright.”
“What happened, Mainard?” Adam asked his son. “What were you all thinking, going into the forest this late?” “I would like to ask you the same thing, young lady.” Eric added sternly to his daughter. “You know about bandits roaming in these woods; why would you all come out here?”
All the children bowed their heads in shame; unsure of how they would explain. Before Melody could explain, Mainard spoke up. “It’s all my fault.” He explained. “I just wanted to have one last adventure before dinner; we saw the falling stars and we wanted to see what they looked like up close. So...”
Edgard interrupted. “But, the carriage plan was my idea. I also wanted to see the falling stars so we coaxed the others to joining us.” “So, we’re both at fault.” He finished, bowing his head. Even though the boys were mischief-makers, they had a sense of honor. They did not want to get the girls in trouble nor did they want the others to take the blame for their mistakes.
Tracy and Kathrin looked at the boys with a mixture of surprise and admiration; Tracy to Mainard and Kathrin to Edgard. Dianne and Luciana were surprised as well; the latter wanted to admit that she was also responsible for their little misadventure while the other was more surprised that her brother was taking the blame for her carriage idea.
The fathers looked at the two children, thinking for a moment. Finally, Eric sighed. “Well, all that matters is that you’re all safe.” He stated. “We’ll discuss this tomorrow back at the castle because right now, all your mothers are worried sick of all of you.” The children nodded silently and went to their respective parents, the fathers dismounting on their horses and putting their sons/daughters on them.
Some of the twins settled on riding with their mothers while the soldiers allowed the others to ride on theirs. Soon, the party turned around and walked or trotted back to the palace. As they walked, Charming turned to the children and asked. “By the way, what happened out there? Did any of you see a blue flash of light or heard a roaring sound?”
The children stiffened a bit at that statement and the royal adults noticed it. “Umm...that flash was...caused by...us!” Melody replied. “It was us; we were running away from the bandits when we decided to take them on our own.” “Me and Garrick used some of their lanterns we stole from them to create a large, umm... flash bomb!!”
“Yeah!” Garrick added quickly, catching onto her ruse. “Once they were distracted, we fought them off as best as we could!” The parents looked at them with raised eyebrows, not sure whether to believe them or not. Dianne added. “As for that strange roar, me and Mainard made that!” “The bandits cornered us so we used a piece of a large log and combined our voices to make that roar and it frightened them off!!” She explained.
Again, the royal adults just started with raised eyebrows; finding their story a little hard to believe. Eric looked at them for a moment and sighed. “Well then, I believe that answers that.” He spoke up. “Either way, its getting late so we should be heading back now.” He added. “We’ll investigate the forest in the morning and see what we will find.”
“Don’t worry, my friend.” Adam spoke up. “I’ll help in anyway I can.” “So will I.” Charming added. “Shang and I wish to help too.” Aladdin spoke up while Eugene added. “I’m in as well!” “Thank you, my friends.” Eric smiled.
The others continued their march back to the palace, Melody turning around for a brief to look in the distance; the moonlight casting large shadows at her side. “Thank you, Lok.” She thought to herself as she smiled. “I hope I see you again soon.”
As she turned back to the road ahead, her mind thought back to the Great White Bear and the other Monsuno who saved her and her friends from a cruel fate. “I believe my birthday is going to be something...” She thought
Little did the royal children know that Rapunzel, Jasmine and Mulan were staring at them. Unlike the kings, they were more perceptive when it came to children. They all saw their reactions when they asked what the light and sound was, and the three women knew they were hiding something.
(In the forest...)
The Blue-Moon Tribe watched from the forest, watching the scene unfold. “Such nice kids” Charger chuckled as he watched them leave. “It’s a shame they have to leave so soon.” “I would have loved to spend some time with those children.” Long-Fang added. “Especially the girl called Ping, she intrigues me...”
“As does that auburn boy.” Boost spoke up. “He has the heart and the courage of a wolf.” “I prefer thos-s-se twins-s-s.” Glow-Blade commented. “Their minds-s-s are as s-s-sharp as a s-s-serpents-s-s-s.”
Lok didn’t seem to hear them, his eyes were fixed on Melody. Something that Mystic-Blade noticed. “Is everything alright, my friend?” He asked. “That girl, Melody” Lok replied. “She is kind, brave and was willing to risk her life to protect her friends.” The White Bear smiled. “In a way, she reminds me a lot like Chase.” He turned to Mystic-Blade. “You sense it, too?” He asked
The Winged-Serpent nodded and placed a wing on Lok’s great shoulder. “Indeed.” He spoke up. “Her heart and spirit are pure, she is a child of two worlds.” “She is a born leader,” He added, smiling at his friend. “just like Chase and you.” “Not to worry, I’m sure we’ll see them again soon.” He assured.
Lok nodded. “Of course.” He replied, before turning to his Tribe. “Come, let us find a place to rest for the night.” As the Monsuno went off, Lok looked back as he thought about Melody. “Sleep well, little sister.” He spoke softly, “I look forward to our next meeting soon...”
