Innocent people? According to the caption, he seemed to be strolling through the forest minding his own business when he was attacked by a group of apparent, wanna-be dragonslayers and had every right to defend himself. And like any nature loving environmentalist, he certainly can't leave the rotting bodies of his attackers spoiling the environment, but convert them into nurturing fertilizer for the forest flora.
