Anthrocon was so much fun. I may go again, especially with all the neat things to buy and great artists.
From the Sanguine Productions booth I bought a copy of their Role Playing game Ironclaw. It's an interesting read so far. I also took up their offer to have one's character drawn by their house artist.
So, out to terrorise the seas is Abel the Disabler. A pirate who prefers to keep his prey alive as possible to spread his fame and be forced to listen to his motley crew's renditions of various songs, plays and poetry.
He is known as the Disabler for his habit of doing some minor damage to the captured ship, usually things like removing the Ship's wheel or having his men undo all the ship's sails. This delays the captured ship from either getting help too soon or turning on them too quickly.
His background story is that he was once a court scribe who while on business with his unpleasant aristrocratic master, found himself in the middle of a Pirate raid. As the ship bvurned around him he did the only thing he could think of. He slipped onto the Pirate ship and donned clothing from their hold and hid among the crew as one of their own.
In the coming months he found himself enjoying the liberatingly strightforward life of a pirate, and when the Ship's captain was felled in battle he picked up his sword and Pistols and with a cry of "Dying is easy lads, Comedy is hard! Let's show them the easy path!" Plunged into the thick of it.
Once the battle was over the crew admitted that Abel had a good theatrical sense for being the captain and so while the first mate handles the day-to-day business of keeping the ship going, Abel is the default Captain of the Dragon's Star when the need for one arises.
