the larger speaker that the scanner and subwoofer is sitting on was part of my Pc's first sound system, a set of watercore 180watt speakers from the late 70's. There's a control box above the PC for them, as it was meant for a band to input 4 channels into with 1/4 inch plugs

Damn, that's a heavy-duty speaker! The metal corner brackets make it look like an amp cabinet.
They don't make 'em like that anymore....although in this instance, it might actually be a good thing. Speakers have gotten so much smaller, but give so much more sound.
