I wonder if it hurt to change that quickly? When you really think about TF, and all the moving parts , it really makes you wonder. Bones need to reshape along with the muscles. Your nerves and vaines all need to be remapped. New body parts form and organs change. All of that all at onces so fast the guy is lifted up off the ground and lands already changed.
The nerves themselves have to change as well, so likely what he is fleeing is a lot of pain, but it must be confused as to what it is. Or maybe with all his cells alerting his body is in red alert and screaming that he is dying. It is so fast though, maybe it is like you said and it happened so quickly that nothing registered fully.
