Another wonderful
SusanDeer sketch.
This is Reggie Buckhorn's father, who at the start of the stories is Sir Josslyn Buckhorn, Bt. Sir Josslyn is the third member of the family to run F.R. Buckhorn & Sons, an international food company that specializes in herbivore goodies. Their arch-rival is Fenwick Foods, run by Lady Pamela Fenwick, with whom Reggie has a run-in in the Spontoon story "Around the Bend."
Sir Josslyn has an absolutely volcanic temper, and is rarely seen not bellowing or throwing some sort of fit. He has to have some level of smarts, as the family firm is, in fact, hugely profitable. Some of this bad temper is because he's been a chubby boy nearly all of his life, and had to endure a rather miserable fawn-hood at school as a result. (His grandfather was American, and being a whitetail, he sticks out in England -- he got the nickname "Nattybumpo" in school, which enraged him.) His father was also quite absent-minded, and had to end up in a home for the bewildered.
Lady Gwladys Buckhorn, his mate and Reggie's mother, is very much his mental equal and consistently takes her fawn's side in battles. Amazingly, even if this infuriates him, Sir Joss respects his mate for her smarts.
After a lengthy period of time, around 1937 he was given a peerage, and became Viscount Buckhorn (and not Lord Saveus, as his son was wondering).
