11" x 17". intaglio. 2005.
Made while taking a printmaking elective. Good times. I miss the print shop so much.
Drawn by scratching the lines into a zinc plate with a metal stylus, painting it with asphalt to preserve tones, and then submerging in acid for different durations to achieve the shading when run through a printing press.

I pulled five prints of this. I think I sold one at Anthrocon that year.

I wish I could take enough to get that as my focus for my BFA. The focus will probably, unintentionally be either drawing or graphic design since I've taken the most classes in those areas (read: easy A).
I'd kill for a press. :( I'd LOVE to do printmaking at home, but not having a press kinda limits what kind of printing I can do...

I don't think anybody actually -has- a press, they are prohibitively expensive, impossible to move and typically ancient. The best most prinkmakers can hope for is a printshop in the area that runs a co-op or let's you rent time or something. There are a couple studios in Boston like that, you have to pay to use the press and/or chip in helping to maintain the shop.
Look around where you are and see, I bet there's a press available somewhere for some kind of deal.

As much as I love printmaking, etchings were one of those things I could happily live the rest of my life without doing lol. Just the process you have to go through was ridiculous, even though they look amazing (so that's why I've stuck to linoleum). This may I say came out incredibly well.
