Inspired by The Iron Knight, a shortstory by J-Raz
Done as part of CCC:10, a gift-art swap organized by Gabi
Here we have Lord Justinian, a Genius engineer, besieged by rivals and disheartened by the failing health of his father, desperately trying to make real the only thing that still gives him hope: a powered suit of armour that would turn back his belligerent rivals and prove that he is every bit the leader his father was. Making an inspiration real is a long and hard road, however, and the crippling flaws of his design are as disheartening as his faith in the Iron Knight is uplifting.
All the drawing/inking was done on paper, and some touching up done in digital. The black regions were outlined on paper, and filled in with Photoshop. (Thank you, Multiply)
Since the story was in the form of a journal, there isn't a lot of description of the appearance of the main character, Justinian, or the armored combat suit he's building, the eponymous Iron Knight. I avoided getting to detailed into the character/mechanical design as a result. Even so, I did my best to do more with less. The mood and personality, of Justin' and the IK, come across pretty strong (at least, I think so).
The chains were fun to draw. I love drawing chains. Hardly ever get to.
There's a lot of things screwed up in this pic, particularly the lighting, and the perspective on that background line... but, dang, I like how this looks.
Anyway... comments and critique very much appreciated. Lemme know what you think.
