Pit Bull Angel Hand-made Ornament
This was made last year at Christmas time for one of my best friends, Collin, who's beloved American Pit Bull, Tucker, died a horrible, tragic, accidental death earlier in the year. I loved that dog like he was one of my own, and he was a shining example of what remarkably good dogs pit bulls are when socialized properly and raised by decent people. I cried and cried over this poor dog's horrible passing, and helped my friend bury him in in the wooded area behind my parent's house. My fiancee and I eventually bought him a puppy not to replace Tucker, but to help distract him from his loss.
This was meant as a tree ornament, but turned out rather large and heavy, so is more suited as a wall hanging. ( Which is fine, Collin loves it so much ). I scuplted it out of Super Sculpey and then baked it, then did several coats of acrylic paint and then oil paint to get some of the detailed work like veins and the brindle coat pattern ( can be seen in close-up shots which I will upload later ). Trim is gold string, and adhesive ribbon. I made the wings out of good ol' newspaper paper mache, and then painted them, and then glitter-gunked them, and then glued them on. You can see a slight difference in the left shoulder before and after the wings because as it was getting closer to Christmas, I was trying to rush and accidently super-glued my thumb to the shoulder XD So I had to repaint the whole shoulder and I had already washed out my entire custom paint palette, so I did my best to match the colors I had originally mixed.
I've considered possibly taking commissions for these ( furry ornaments, not necessarily angel ones ), but it would have to be for serious commissioners only, because they would probably be costly as they take so damn long.
These photos were taken with my iphone 3G S, so I'm sorry that the quality isn't any better. Later I will upload several collages showing the step-by-step process of making this, as I took several photos to document the making of this as part of the 'gift'.

Awww that is sweet as can be and yes, I agree. I'm so glad he was a precious boy and a shining example. I'm glad there is a movement, finally, to show just what neat dogs they CAN be when not owned and raised by asshats. They've had such a bum rap for far too long. What a lovely little tribute.
That's really sweet that you bought him a new companion, though. That helps! :)
I'm now curious as to just HOW much is a lot for comissions of these because I've been looking for a little Newfoundland ornament for my tree for ages.

Lol- I say that, but I guess I honestly don't know what I would price one at ^_^; lol. I thought they made Newfie ornaments?
And I understand certain breeds getting a bum rap. I have a high percentage wolfdog, and those have a reputation of being highly dangerous thanks to idiot backyard breeders looking to make a quick buck.

I've seen Newfs but very seldomly and they can be incredibly ugly. Your Pit is cute :D
The funny thing is, that dogs are like kids, if they're horrid, it's a high chance it's because the owner's a fool. Pits getting scooped up by every macho dorkhead who wants a 'badass' fighting dog is such a sad, sad example of this. And it's a shame, I have been fortunate to know many sweet Pit Bulls because the people who owned them were good owners.
