So I had some extra cash lying around, and bought a Havahart Trap
basically a big, humane, catch and relase animal trap for things like raccoons and such
and I put it outside my house near the woods to try and catch something
THIS IS THE DIARY OF MY CATCHES
July 6, 2010: Tonto the Raccoon
This morning my mom woke me up all giddy because she saw there was a baby raccoon in my trap
she was pretty excited because she had raised a pair of them when she was a kid named The Lone Ranger and Tonto XD
he was so small and cute, but pretty pissed that he was caught
he started hissing right away when we got down there so I just snapped a few pics of him and let him go before I stressed him out too much.
I made sure to give him another marshmellow as he ran off, so hopefully he isnt too pissed at me, lol.

just so you know, never try to make contact with a wild raccoon. they look all cute and cuddley but the molment that they feel cornered or threatened in any way they will not hesitate to rip your face off. these animals are well known for being able to kill dogs and other animals that are chasing them, while i doubt it could kill you it could still do quite some damage to you. also since you are using that kind of trap you should know that they like to grab stuff thats outside the cage and pull it in so keep your fingers away.
Trust me, I know how dangerous they can be, I caught a larger one that was the size of a small dog
and it was so ferocious I had to use leather gloves and tie a string to the door and release it at a distance
The little ones are far more docile, but they still do hiss and lunge when they feel completely cornered
I much prefer possums to raccoons, they are much more laid back |D

I dont grab possums by the tail, because I believe this hurts them, despite being the safest way to pick them up.
I think most people think that they are fine to be picked up that way because of the old "possums hang by their tail" stigma
but adult possums cannot support their body weight with their tail, so I just dont pick them up like that out of courtesy :3
but they are so adorable and have derpy looking expressions on their faces all the time. Possums are my favorite thing I've caught in my trap so far, besides the neighbor's cat, lol! XD
ohmygod. skunks. I dont even want to imagine.
They are freaking adorable, and I live in the country so I'm used to the smell
but I just hope I never catch one @__@

i caught one with a net, you can see it on my page. it was a baby though. also i dont only grab the tail when i pick a opossum up you use your other hand and grab it behind the neck for more control over the chompers. although i did used to have a opossum that liked to hang out in the plant in our livingroom
