Chapter 21: Sebastain’s New Job
(In Atlantica...)
Deep under the sea and deep within the palace, King Triton was in one of his private studies. Ever since his wife Athena was killed, he had been gathering any intelligence of magical objects, be it from land, sea or sky. With it, he was able to construct a device which would show him which items were active.
It had taken some years since he was not skilled in the arts of magic, but Trition finally managed to create a large magical seashell that showed him which magical artifacts were being used. He also made sure that it could pick up magic items that were as strong as his trident.
Currently, the seashell was out and placed upright with all the curtains closed tight. Triton lifted his trident, which was now glowing in a golden light. He ordered the seashell “Reveal to me what objects are activated. Show me which magical artefacts are in use!”
The seashell began to spin slowly and began glowing just like the trident. The Sea King may have lost his disdain for humans, but he was still protective of Ariel and her granddaughter Melody. He felt the discharge of magic that was connected to them and needed to find answers before taking any action.
The small protrusions on the seashell shot forth light and they merged to form an orb of light which showed images of four strange gems, each of a different shape and color. They showed the images of a great oak tree, a large tear of sort surrounded by earth, an eagle with its wings spread and finally a large seahorse which Triton recognized immediately.
The king of the merfolk frowned in worry as the images slowly faded away and the orb of light receded and died out completely. “So, it's true...” He muttered to himself. “Poseidon's Seahorse is active. And these other images...I believe they are the Dwarves Tear, the Emerald Oak and the Eagle King.”
“Each of these gems has an incredibly strong connection to the elements and anyone who owns them will have control over Earth, Wood, Water and Wind.” He thought as he swam about in his study, in the form of pacing, thinking hard on what it could mean.
“If only I could figure out who had activated them, and where they reside!” His trident couldn’t pinpoint the location of the gems, so the Sea King was stumped. He still wasn’t sure if the activation of the gems were a danger to his kingdom and his family.
He needed someone to go to the surface and keep an eye on Ariel and her family, a sentry that would warn him if danger was approaching, a most loyal and trusted advisor and friend. Fortunately, he had the perfect candidate in mind and was making his way out of his study.
“I hope Sebastain will be able to put his concert plans on hold for a while.” Triton thought, chuckling a bit. His faithful friend and musical genius always got wound up whenever it came anything concerning his daughter and granddaughter and asking to put his concert practices on hold for a bit...well, he knew the little crab would surely object to it.
The Sea King sighed as he rubbed his head. “Oh, I’m sure Sebastain will understand.” He thought. “It’s not as if I’m asking him to cancel the concert.”
(Later, in a private musical chamber...)
“YA WANT ME TO WHAT?!” Sebastain screamed at the top of his little lungs at the Sea-King. Normally, the little crab would not be so disrespectful but after a long, tiring day of practice and planning for the concert, the little crab was ready to call it a night.
However, when Triton requested him to follow him to a secret musical chamber, he could sense something bad was about to happen. And when the king requested him to put the practice sessions on hold for a bit to check up on Melody and Ariel...well, let’s just say the poor crab was close to having a mental breakdown, his jaw had dropped all the way to the floor.
“Your Majesty, with all due respect, dis is crazy!” Sebastain exclaimed. “I need all the help and time I can get to make sure Melody’s concert gift goes off without a hitch! There’s no one else qualified to make sure the practice session goes on and now, you want me to leave them all high and dry to check up on Ariel and Melody!?”
King Triton sighed. “I’m sorry, Sebastain.” he replied. “But after my investigation, I need someone I can trust to keep a close eye on my daughter and my family on the surface.” “I’ll make sure to find someone decent enough to continue the practice sessions, but right now, my safety of my family and my kingdom comes first.” He assured the crab.
The small red crab just shook his red, covering his eyes with one of his claws and muttering to himself on how too much of a soft shell he was. Finally, he sighed in resignation. “Fine, if it’s for Ariel and Melody, I’ll be sure to keep an eye on them, as long as that crazy chef doesn’t try to put me on the menu.” He replied.
“Also,” he added. “make sure you find a decent substitute in my place. I plan to do this concert well for the little lady and I want it done right! All of my plans and such for the concert is in my workshop.” Triton smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Sebastain.” He replied, “I knew I could count on you.”
“Now go! Hurry and swim towards Ariel’s palace” He added. “If need be, take Flounder with you. I’m sure the two of you will be able to handle this assignment.” The musical genius bowed to the Sea King before swimming off, first to go and find Flounder before heading off to Ariel and Eric’s palace.
As King Triton watched his little friend off, he looked down at his trident and sighed softly. “I hope everything is alright, and my fears are only just a dream.” He thought to himself.
