Not really. This project was already under way (Changelings and Godlings) before that started, I actually borrowed ideas in the other direction.

New Year's 2013, a world very close to ours had an Event happen. Magic returned, and a small but significant fraction of humans became mythical or anthromorphic beings. The stories track the changes that happen afterwards.

There are also some very long-lived individuals who've been around from previous magic/non-magic cycles, the so-called Immortals.

The Unexpected Life arc tracks the changes in a particular fellow's life as time goes by - in his case, he was medically challenged before it started, and got healed as part of being transformed. So part alternate history, part slice of life, part Grand Scheme of Things as he comes in contact with some of the Immortals.
