Sometime in 2019, I decided to dig out my Nintendo 64 to see if it still worked. After a lot of experimentation and cleaning, I eventually got a few games to play some of the time. However, Paper Mario was the only one which worked perfectly first time, and every time after that. It even had the old save data.
Playing through it, and getting to relive those memories, felt very special. It's true that I could've gone the emulator route, but there's something about being able to handle the physical cartridge and use the N64 controller that made it feel more nostalgic.
The series may have gone in a different direction, but I'm so happy to have been able to experience the original when I was younger. It's such a charming adventure, and still one of my favourite RPGs.
These were done with the noise brush I was experimenting with. I really like the effect it gives, but it results in a significantly larger filesize.
