I love that "the worst Viking Berk has ever seen" is casually the one who argues with a Night Fury like hes a disobedient cat. I used to get into disagreements with my mare--at least all she did was stomp and toss her head a bit, she didn't come with plasma blasts! This was a fun study because while Hiccup and Toothless still respect/adore each other--fights happen in the best relationships! Unlike most feral creatures, Toothless displays human level intelligence canonically--I wanted him to be intimidating and once Hiccup starts getting taller he likely stands up to be higher in the argument because he won't bat/bite Hiccup like he would another dragon he's angry at--but he still wants to get his point across! Hence the bare of teeth and flex of claws. Big dragon-cat angy XD Hiccup, as seen by his arched back and firm stare, is not buying it. (Meanwhile plenty of vikings are refusing to look Toothless in the eye suddenly...bc goddamn..)

This is true. It can't always be smiles and fun. Whether it just be a bad mood for no reason, or a genuine difference in views, arguments happen, and are a natural part of life. I'm really glad to see art like this that explores more facets of life rather than just the "everything is great!" side. Even better that it's happening with Toothless and not another human. Goes to show his true intelligence, and makes him feel like a more rounded character. Love it.
