I know her pain. Trying to keep small and having growth spurts is no joke. Highly dangerous if not properly attended to and prepared for. A deadly condition... not for the one affected, but those around.
Please be cautious when you are effected with a condition where you cannot control your size.

Her being big is to blame. She takes things less serious the bigger she is. She doesn't become mean though.

Well it varies a lot. The reason macros are big is due to the eminse energy they hold. And being small causes a build up. And once a limit has been reached it either die or grow. The body chooses to grow.
For Eris its random, though can be predictable. She just doesn't want to think about being big. So its a fault of her doing

I actually use this concept also for some size-shifters, but in general I assume they can 'feel' it coming... though some external events can force it.

There is no predictability to her growth. There may be a point where after weeks on end of being small that one may pop up. But then there's also being small for a couple of days and still growing.

I'm not sure about Brackish's interpretation, but the point I noticed was "She had forgotten about this spurt coming."

That bit implies there's at least some sort of schedule or indication of her growth events coming and she'd forgotten or mixed the dates up or something like that. If she hadn't missed some ability to plan for dangerous growth events, the reflecting and regrets would be different. (ie if there's really no predictability at all, then it would be more an internal conflict of her to choose to be around small folks in general in confined spaces or any sort of risky circumstances: but then that might just lead to her isolating herself for fear of harming anyone)

I'm not sure if you've posted anything that explains whether she can grow at will either or stay big indefinitely if she wants, but if she could choose to just stay big that would be another choice weighing on her mind.
(In the past, I think you mentioned that average macros don't very good reputations in this setting, either, so I could see that being one reason why she tries to just blend in and be more 'normal' or that she just already had a normal life and doesn't want to lose it)

She has no indication of when she will grow. All she knows is being small for any amount of time may result in growth. But she hates being big. She she stays small even despite the risk. She wants to be normal. To be small and human again.

The line is meaning she had forgotten it was coming due to her being small for a fairly long time. She had bee small long enough to forgot she could grow or have a spurt.

And ya, normal macros are a shoot on sight from the military. With a few exceptions, Eris and Yuri and a couple others. For lore reasons not really explained in the pieces of art
