Some conceptual sketches of a race me and DoDeDo worked up together called Vishnu. (Someone else suggested the name, forgot who though. -.- Accidentally deleted the journal after replyin' to 'em.)
Anyways, for those curious about the terrain names at the bottom... they each show which region the particular variant of the species adapted to.
Mountains/Tree - Vishnu who have adapted to living in high regions, such as mountainous regions and great tree regions. Their feathers, while not useful for full flight or glide, have given them an extra thumb digit on their feet to help them keep their ground on rocky/uneven terrain.
Snowlands - Vishnu from the snowland regions that adapted with hooven toes to better survive in regions that tend to be icy or filled with snow often. Their tail is shorter and stumpier than the other variations and their wings are thicker than the others. As well, within their kind a certain recessive gene gives a few that are homozygous for the trait 'boarish' tusks that jut from the lower jaw.
Ocean/Lakes - Vishnu adapted to living near sea/ocean/lakeside. Developed webbing that aids them in swimming and diving. As such, they've got a knack for fishing and a deep fondness for seafood.
Desert - Sparse feathers and slick body design allows them to dart quickly through the desert regions. Unlike others of their kind, they tend to be slimmer.
These will be coloured later as well as having 'clothed' versions. This'll probably be moved to scraps around that time

They mostly have different feathers, which is hard to tell from the sketches. For example, the snowy region ones actually have thicker feathers than the others... but in the sketch they look fairly similiar. And, as well, the water-based ones are more akin to the duck's feathers.
All this said, I know how hard it is to create an entire species. Hell, I had enough trouble designing my hurricusians when I was doing an alien story. x3 I modeled them very loosely after seahorses, because they're an entirely aquatic species. You considering getting more art of these guys done? Cause I'm curious as to how they'd behave in a lotta situations. x3
