Okay so today I was walking back from getting a quick dinner and I found this thing dead on the road. I have never seen it before around here. I have a flash light shining on it in this one so I can get some details, but it didn't work that well. Anyway this thing is pretty much all black with a purple-blue sheen, it's wings as you can see face back and are triangular kind of like a moth's. It also had large mandibles which you can't see in any of the pictures I tried to take. It's legs are long and have large knobby joints. The legs are curled under it. It is about 3.5 to 4 centimeters in length. It looks kind of wasp or bee like.
If anyone knows what it is or can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I have figured out what it is! It is a Cimbicidae Birch or elm Sawfly!!

Which the bug fits every look there. SOOOOO I think that this bug really is not very common here.

Cool! That makes it an even more interesting find. :3 Where are you? I live in eastern PA, and it's been really hot and dry for this time of year (has been in the high 90s or low 100s, and hasn't rained in two weeks when it usually rains at least every other day x.x), so some bugs have been appearing that I've never seen before. Could be something similar in your area?
Still weird, and I'm still interested, whenever you come up with a pricetag. :3

awesome I will take a look see to see what people sell bugs for XD Seeing as he has some damage I will aim at a decent price :)
I live in Halifax Nova Scotia and it has been really hot here lately too.
This is a better picture someone else too of the insect here http://bugguide.net/images/raw/LR5H.....HR8LWZWHWZ.jpg so you get a better idea what it looks like :)

*hit 'post' too soon* >.>;;
He's so beautiful. *.* You say he's got a blue sheen, too?
And yeah, that could very well be the reason he's shown up, then. I'm tempted to go out at night and set up a white sheet and light in our backyard to see what has moved into our area. :3

It doesn't look like a Bot fly. But it does look like some sort of Wasp.
To really know what it is go to: http://bugguide.net
