Mysterious insect (Cimbicidae (Birch or elm Sawfly)
Okay so today I was walking back from getting a quick dinner and I found this thing dead on the sidewalk. I have never seen it before around here. Anyway this thing is pretty much all black with a purple-blue sheen, it's wings as you can see face back and are triangular kind of like a moth's. It also had large mandibles which you can't see in any of the pictures I tried to take. It's legs are long and have large knobby joints. The legs are curled under it. It is about 3.5 to 4 centimeters in length. It looks kind of wasp or bee like.
If anyone knows what it is or can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. (its sitting on my brand new Bamboo pen & touch...) <.<
EDIT: I have figured out what it is! It is a Cimbicidae Sawfly!!

Which the bug fits every look there. SOOOOO I think that this bug really is not very common here.

ok thank you.. I was looking at pictures of carpenter bees and wasps and I can't find anything quite like the one I have here. Maybe it's some weird hybrid or something lol. I mean I can see that it seems to have aspects of both the carpenter bees and wasps. I will try yahoo
