the thing with wakizashis were only used for samurai because it represented their social power and personal honour while ninjas would use either the katana or what htey should call their swords Ninjatō. But since tmnt is created in America, they didn't prob make enough historic researches
That's even more extensive than I was thinking! I was only thinking about the technical aspect, not the cultural. Classically speaking, when two swords are used akimbo style, one is always shorter and used for parrying (like a parrying dagger paired with a rapier).
