The three sexes of Khurin!
Colours can vary widely between them, so it's not that females are darker coloured, or the neutral/third sex is always like a goth nightmare, it's just a variety.
Spots are more common than stripes, but do happen in all three kinds.
The two-tails on the third sex was inspired by the old Japanese legends of old, powerful animals splitting their tails as they aged.
I haven't gone too far into the lore of these things but ... something similar might happen.
