None of Lauren's ideas like "Celestia raising Spike" were meant to be considered canon, ever.
Lauren hasn't said that "Celestia is Spike's mother" when she only mentioned about Celestia just raising him. Once Twilight grew older, she took over.
It doesn't make anyone a "mother/father," nor having "motherly/fatherly" moments, acts… when she/he is just looking after or raising someone.
Anyone like Celestia, who's a beautiful and powerful alicorn, doesn't fit as a "mother" for a small, goofy, and clumsy character like Spike, neither him being a "prince," either.
"Adoption" isn't a must-thing. What's only most important is that you take care of whoever you're looking after.
It's stupid and ain't worth imagining this kind of stuff because it's just "cute," nor if it's all only about Spike himself, at all.
It's impossible and no point by having Spike in the show. Lauren wouldn't say that Spike's real parents "just abandoned him," or "just died…"
This "Celestia being Spike's mother" stuff normally only comes from Spike Abuse.
There are several errors in a few episodes like "Equestria Games," where Spike got all credit for no reason despite all the hard work the other characters had done and the roles they've played. Like Twilight, she did most of it. Twilight figured out where the heart was, found the hidden passage to it, made her way up to the top in lights speed with her up-side-down magic, and Twilight passing the burden over to Spike was her idea, and Spike only ran a small distance over to a ledge and then fell. Shining Armor saves him AND the heart, then Cadance flew over there, caught them, and brought the heart to where it needed to go. Spike is NOTHING compared to that and doesn't deserve to be the "hero of the Crystal Empire."
In "Gauntlet of Fire," the question is where Garble's hatred against ponies came from or why anyone would invade an entire land to steal beds. Dragons aren't able to use magic, so they are, without a doubt, weak and harmless.
Here's the proof showing that the writers weren't behind any of those errors, but the fans themselves. So, it makes it clear that some of the Spike-fans couldn't stand his abuse, mistreatments, and appearances as one, simple background decoration in the previous seasons.

Besides all that, it's still a good drawing. Not into the scenery, but the colors, the lines...

Okay. ( I believe we have met before with the same topic on Derpibooru. )
Anyway, my reasoning is that canon's rules shouldn't stop the fandom's head-canon creativity to make a enjoyable/loveable/alternative timeline story.
But Its understandable that not everyone is into "Prince Spike" story idea.

Yeah, I apologize if I sounded angry. I just wanted to make sure that those who are into it are also aware of those facts. They CAN have their own head-canons for any character, of course. Yes, you are a great artist, I give you that. You did good with the colors, the lines, and the shading, even though I wasn't into the scenery. And, I haven't said anything hateful or anything, I only wanted to share my points.
Another question is; how come Celestia was able to do this "letter sending" ability to Spike when Faust said that dragons were mysterious and ponies knew nothing about them? And WHY him? Doesn't it make more sense and smarter for Twilight to handle the letters herself since she's a unicorn/alicorn and Celestia's student after all? Imagine when there's a vital situation and Twilight need to report to Celestia, but can't because Spike's not around.
(Oh? I guess it's a way to save time by copying and pasting comments. Well, who knows.)

I'm sure a talent writer can come up a way to sent letters to Twilight through something else.
( Perhaps learn sent the letters with own magic like how Celestia sent hers to Twilight without using a dragon to sent them. )
But in the stories I found Spike's title as an prince isn't revealed until late of story when he get married with a special somepony, so he remain as Twilight's assistant.

I never bought into the whole "spikeabuse" thing cause frankly every character is clowned on at some point even celestia becomes more goofy and over the top in the later seasons as opposed to her more stoic self in the first two seasons probably in an attempt to make her less "boring" I guess. Like no one brings up how bad Fluttershy gets it in season 1-3 and that apparently only Spike is the one wearing the clown shoes.... nah I don't buy it. That being said its weird how no one brings up how Spike befriended a changeling which in the grand scheme of things had a MUCH greater effect on the world and arguably way more important then anything he did in the CE
Well, as far as I can tell, some episodes, such as the Power Ponies episode - especially Equestria Games and Gauntlet of Fire - were an awful mess, and I guess I'll start with the Equestria Games episode, as you might have read my old comments above.
You see, Spike unabashedly stole every credit, for himself, despite all the hard work the others had done, especially Twilight, who did most of it. Twilight figured out where the Crystal Heart was, made it up to the top of the stairs by using her magic to slide upside-down, then ultimately risked herself failing Celestia's test for the Crystal Empire's sake by forcing Spike to deliver the Crystal Heart. Shining Armor threw Cadence, then she caught Spike and the Crystal Heart, restoring it herself. Spike only ran a short distance until he tripped over and almost shattered the Crystal Heart, then got praised alone as the "Hero of the Crystal Empire" just for that. I couldn't help but feel bad for Twilight and the others who got thrown under the bus just like that, that all their effort was for nothing.
In addition, Twilight got paralyzed by watching her biggest fear about her failing Celestia's test through a door, but Spike didn't when he watched his own biggest fear, where Twilight sent him away. How come Twilight was the one who got paralyzed by watching her biggest fear and not Spike when he watched his own biggest fear?
Later on, during the games, one of the competitors shot an arrow that turned a cloud into a "giant," jagged ice block, and there was no one who came up with a contingency plan for that type of situation. The ponies could've easily steered it away from the crowds towards the field without a problem. The head of security had every unicorn's magic disabled to prevent cheating - including the officials' and the princesses' magic - and he seemed to believe that keeping everyone from doing so was more important than using magic to save their lives. That's when I figured that the crux of the problem with Spike episodes is that you need to drag everyone else down if you want Spike to shine at all.
The same thing happened in Gauntlet of Fire, where Spike got another chance to shine by only preventing a couple of teenage dragons from stealing beds because they only got tired of sleeping on rocks. Garble, however, wanted revenge on the ponies without explaining why or how. The dragon lord, Torch, and his daughter, Ember, appeared without being mentioned or seen earlier. If Ember didn't appear, then there'd be no one who could take Spike's place as the new Dragon Lord so he could stay with Twilight. If Torch didn't appear - and then immediately retire - there'd be no reason to organize a race for the dragons to compete to become the new Dragon Lord. Twilight or Rarity couldn't handle a couple of teenage dragons despite the times when they already dealt with other foes, such as the Changelings in the Canterlot wedding episode. Once again, the crux of the problem with Spike episodes is that you need to drag everyone else down if you want Spike to shine at all.
The same goes with the Times There Were a Changeling episode. It's no wonder why Twilight and the others were stubborn and preferred to be on guard except Spike.
I'm not going to lie. I once believed that Spike was a self-insertion. You know, that fans lived something vicariously by imagining themselves in Spike's place. Look, I'm not saying I have a problem with that or you being a part of it, but it's just that it explains their complaints about Spike getting treated poorly - which I've seen - or why they're into the "Celestia being Spike's mom" thing, from my perspective, though. Speaking of "Celestia being Spike's mom," I've been wondering, what happened to Spike's parents? Where did Celestia get Spike's egg? I mean, it's not like Lauren would say that Spike's parents just died or abandoned him for some reason. What I mentioned about "Celestia being Spike's mom" at the top of the comment thread, I regret saying some of those sentences since I figured they maybe sounded a bit harsh. Although, I never saw what the whole purpose was for Spike to exist in the franchise, anyway.
Even though I'm not into this "Celestia being Spike's mom" thing, Droll3 sure did excellent work on the picture! I like the colors, the lines, the shading, and all that.

Sorry for interrupting. Whatever you're referring to, I have to reveal that Spike had caused several errors in episodes, such as the Power Ponies episode, especially Equestria Games and Gauntlet of Fire. I've already submitted this reply to "NeloAngel," as well.

Hmmm...
At least in a Naruto crossover "The Will of Fire", Nightmare Moon was enjoying to have a chance to kill Celestia's son ( Spike ), Luna's role in it didn't have a bigger role...
For a soft romance between Spike & Luna I recommed "Spike's Gals" fic.
