Here it is...
“Almost done” thought the tiger as he stirred some more spices into his
jambalaya. After tasting his concoction, Matt poured the food into a large bowl,
and carried it outside his apartment to a door labeled 310. After knocking three
times, the door opened. “Raaaaawwwwr!” yelled two small figures as they
pounced on the tiger’s jean-clad legs. “Hello Tania, hello Nick” the tiger greeted
calmly. “Hiya Uncle Matt” chorused the two grey and white Siberian husky puppies
clinging to his legs. Matt spoke as calmly as before, “You do realize that the longer
you hold me here, the longer it will take to set dinner on the table?” The two pups
hastily let go. “Go on and tell your mother dinner is ready” the tiger instructed the
pups. Nodding, the pups ran into their apartment yelling “MOM! UNCLE MATT SAYS
DINNER IS READY!” Matt shook his head as he followed the pups into an
apartment whose floor was strewn about with dolls, action figures, cards, and
board games. A weary looking female pure white husky in a business suit greeted
him with a tired smile. “Matt,” she said “thank you so much for fixing dinner.” Matt
crossed the messy toy-strewn floor with typical feline grace. “Anytime Linka” he
replied with a smile.
Later…“Ohhh” moaned the pups. “I couldn’t eat another bite” groaned Dimitri (the
brown and white one). “Me either” seconded Anya (the black and white one). Matt
gave a sly smile and said “Well I know just the thing to get your poor little
tummies digesting”. The four pups’ eyes were all on the tiger. “We shall journey
through sacred time, through worlds unending, filled with immortals…” the pups’
eyes were like saucers, “otherwise known as… a story”. “Ooohhhh” said the
pups. “AFTER homework!” the mother husky interjected. “Aaaaahhh, Mooom!” the
pups complained. Matt grinned and said “Now pups, your mother’s right… unless
you wish to do your homework AND wash the dishes?” The pups fled. Chuckling
Linka and Matt washed and dried the dishes. Half an hour later, the pups were
lined up on the couch, watching the tiger with anticipation. “Soooooo…” began
Matt, “which story shall I tell tonight?” “The Twelve Labors of Herculeon!” cried
Dimitri. “How about Baba Yaga?” suggested Anya. “Ooohh, how about Aladdin
and the Magic Lamp” Nicholas suggested excitedly. “Beauty and the Feral!”
begged Tania. The tiger took a moment to consider. “How about Rimonah of the
Flashing Fang?” The pups looked at him with blank faces. “Never heard of it eh?
Well, I’d better remedy that.”
…As Rimonah and the Prince were galloping off into the sunset, all four pups were
starting to nod off. “Well” said Matt, “looks like you four are ready for bed.”
“Awwww, Mom, can’t we stay up longer?” begged Anya and Nicholas as Tania and
Dimitri let out a great big “Yaaaawwn”. Linka gave her children a look and said “I
believe THAT is answer enough. “Thank Uncle Matt for dinner and the story and
get ready for bed.” “Thank you Uncle Matt!” chorused the four pups following with
a group hug. “You’re welcome pups, pleasant dreams.” “Good night Linka.” “Good
night Matt.” After a small embrace, Matt exited the apartment and Linka went to
help her pups get ready for bed.
Back in his own apartment, Matt looked through his mail. With a feeling of dread,
he looked at a brown Homey Dens Apartments envelope. After extracting its
contents, he read: Notice Occupant of Apartment #309, you now have one (1)
week left to renew your lease to continue residency at your current residence.
Please renew your lease as soon as possible, or locate a roommate to provide
such funds as necessary to continue residency. Sincerely Benjamin Door: your
resident Landlord. The large feline sighed. “Where am I going to find a decent
roommate?” worried the tiger.
