You know, Dittos and Mew have quite a bit in common. Both of them are the only Pokemon that can use the move Transform. Both have the same colors for normal/shiny forms, the same (base) weight, and same base stats, interestingly. Both are also, technically, genderless. Dittos could be found (in Yellow/FR/LG) in the Mansion on Cinnabar where the experiments regarding Mew and Mewtwo took place. Sounds like there were more than just a few attempts at creating a Mew clone...
