Roasted garlic hummus. a better alternative to buying it at the store premade!
what you need
- 1 1/2 head of garlic (you can do 2 if ya like)
- 2 cans of chick peas
- 4 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 tbs + 2 tsp of lemon juice
- 1/4th tsp sea salt
- a bit of water (depends on how thick or runny you like your hummus)
start out by taking your garlic and slicing the head off it. not a lot, just enough so the inner garlic is peeking out. about a 4th of an inch of it.
spray the heads with cooking spray, and wrap in tinfoil. bake for a hour at 350 degrees. when its done take it out, and let it cool. then squeeze the garlic out of its sheddings. so the flaky stuff is left behind, and your left with the tasty garlic bits.
now take all your ingredients. and blend them thoroughly with a food processor. if its too thick, and not blending well, slowly add little bits of water and stir till you have it blending well. a tbsp more of olive oil or lemon juice wont kill it if you dont want to lose flavoring. this process can take some work, getting it all blended smoothly.
but it pays off! its delicious and AWESOME as a paste on food, or a dip for cucumbers, bell pepper, sweet peppers, chips, zuchinni, celery, carrots. GET CREATIVE!
