Personality: Devoted, compassionate, wrathful. Weland is firmly on the side of good and justice, and through his profession as well as his nightly duties seeks to protect his home district alongside his wife and the other members of the Ash Knights. He has little fear in the face of the evils he opposes, as he knows his comrades have his back and his prowess will guide him through any danger. However, he can let his anger get the better of him at times when stress really ramps up. He is working on this with his daily meditation and training, as well as Mother Pemma's counseling. In all, he is a solid embodiment of the ideal of being a knight and defender, which is what the Ash District needs. He is also a devoted husband and father.

Abilities:

Metal Transmutation: Gladiolus is able to transform himself and anything he touches into any kind of metal that exists and he knows of. If it is part of his body he can freely manipulate it as he wishes, for example he can become mercury to slip into tight spaces or avoid harm. He can also use this power to reattach limbs or even regenerate them.

Magical Talent: As Gladiolus is born of Sable City and his family has lived on the land for multiple generations he has the ability to perform magic. He focuses on the study of rituals and symbols meant to ward off and repel evil and other harmful things, though he has put in some time to the study of metal-based magics as well.

Martial Artist: Every day, Gladiolus devotes at least two hours to the practice of a form of Shaolin Kung-Fu specifically designed for use in the modern era, especially against the nameless horrors from the realm of Beyond, alongside the monks of Sable City's renowned Hilltop Monastery. In conjunction with his metallic power this makes him a truly formidable fighter.

Minor Magical Talent: Steady Hands: Glaldiolus' hands will always be steady specifically when engraving or making jewelry.

Profile: Having grown up in the fringes of Sable City's Ash District, Weland was nonetheless familiar with the terrors that stalked it's streets at night. He thus grew up knowing the various rites and methods people used to ward their homes from harm, though these don't always work. He lost more than a few friends this way, and sought to bring this to an end. His power awakening in his final year of middle school helped him decide his route, and he chose to focus on studying art. Specifically he went into silversmithing and metal crafting in general. He eventually went on to become an excellent maker of jewelry and engraver.

The former gave him the means to fund his life and future family, and the latter to begin accomplishing his dream of helping people in the Ash District as a whole, through providing symbols and other wards engraved on whatever they needed worked on. His taking up direct action when someone was being attacked very close to his home brought him to the attention of Mother Pemma, the founder of the Ash Knights. Through her Weland was provided the training in his power and fighting to become one of their ranks.

Through the years of service in the Knights he distinguished himself quite well, as the Things from Beyond possessed a strong aversion and outright weakness to the metals he could become or turn things into. Through them he also met the vixen he would marry and have a child with, and has become the Ash Knight's greatest fighter through hid determination to see them safe.

Notably, despite his heroic deeds he doesn't consider himself a superhero. He only fights to protect the Ash District and leaves the rest of Sable City to the likes of the Sentries, though he has cooperated with them on occasion whenever supervillains like Doctor Recluse have been on a grand rampage. Otherwise, he doesn't fight out and out crime as the Ash District has no crime after dark. Any criminals tend to be killed, eaten, or worse by the Things he and the Ash Knights fight.

Weaknesses: Gladiolus' primary weakness is his mortality. He must be aware of a threat to know when to become metal to get avoid harm, so catching him by surprise when unprotected can be his downfall. Sickness and injury likewise will doom him. Preying on his concern for the wellbeing of the Ash District's people can drive him to desperation and potentially exhaustion, and putting his child in harm's way can send him into a frothing rage.
