We must destroy this town in order to save it.
That said, this town might be toast, but the rest of the towns probably won't be toasted. Those dragon scales will probably fetch a fairly good price and fund the rebuilding effort. The bones can probably be carved and sold, as can the teeth. Lords and kings would love to have a dragon skull in their court as a conversation piece.

This hero looks like he is closer to 30' tall. :P
