Lyrics:
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach to you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
in the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

One time I was really stoned and heard all kinds of hidden meaning in this song. Too bad I couldn't remember later.
It sounds really good though. Your voice and style are a good fit for this song. It sounds slightly hurried, but I've been guilty of the same thing lol. Kinda hard not to sometimes.

There are a few really heavy ideas going on in this song. I especially like the last verse and the last line of the song.
As far as the hurried feeling, I'm glad you gave an excuse to mention this but i have 3 diferant versions of this song.
The album version
live from NY city 1967
and the one from collected works remastered 92'
And they are all different lengths. the funny thing is that I learned the harmonies from the Collected works version (it has perfect stereo separation) and my version came out almost the same lenght to the second.

I know how that goes.... some of my covers take me months because I can't seem to hit the nail on the head with them. I think we're perfectionists :) That's no bad thing but at times it drives us nuts eh?? I couldnt stream this properly earlier but I noticed that your guitar is lovely :D
well originally we fought about whether or not to do this or Scarborough fair, but after a while the nurse had me take my pill and we got along again. I still think that he could have tried a bit harder but I am pleased with the fact that he no longer wants me to burn things. The money I was spending on matches...
