Isn't it a bad idea for a burglar and petty thief to leave behind a calling card?
They're supposed to take things, not leave them! That's like the opposite of a thief!

It depends on how good they are, and/or their attitude. It's not uncommon in media for master thieves (or those who think of themselves as such) to leave a calling card saying "you've been robbed by me!" to taunt the authorities.
