Hi! Looks like Sigrún became a love interest of certain famous French skunk, even though she haven't accidentally painted herself in black and white stripes :D C'est l'amour!
This is my fanart of Pepé Le Pew, one of the Warner Bros' cartoon characters. (And looks like ACME owns a cruise ship line too :D)
The clothing (and scenery too, tbh) is inspired by the song "Skibet skal sejle i nat", performed by Birthe Wilke and Gustav Winckler as the Danish entry for Eurovision Song Contest in 1957. The song ended up low-placed, because the duo ended their performance with a long, 13-second kiss what caused controversy.
The performance was recorded in black and white, so I don't know what color their clothes really were and used quite random ones - if someone has this information, let me know :D
This is also... kind of a protest artwork for me. There is some debate still going on since March over certain decisions made by WB about the Space Jam sequel, which I feel I need to take a stance in.
TW: mentions of rape/sexual abuse (largely in context of false accusations, though).
So.
Cancelling Pepé Le Pew is absolutely ridiculous. And people who support this bullshit are the most pretentious, humorless, overly sensitive, sad deplorable excuses of a human being in the world.
They seem to be absolutely unable to grasp any, even most obvious joke or comedy and until someone explains it to them, they are going to see even a silly cartoon as some educational piece supposed to be taken seriously, and try to apply its silliness and absurdity to REAL life situations.
What is even worse, they think all the kids are some brainless creatures (like them?), and cannot tell apart fiction from reality. What is simply not true.
We all watched these cartoons. We watched Elmer Fudd trying to hunt down Bugs and we didn't suddenly start to kill rabbits. And we watched Pepé too and he didn't make us "rapists" (btw: I watched A LOT of episodes with him as a kid, and I don't remember him having sex with anyone. So where is the "rape"?)
And no, you don't need a "study" for that. We don't need a peer reviewed study to state every single obvious fact. Sky is blue, 2+2=4, and Pepe Le Pew didn't make anyone a sexual abuser.
Also - they seem to forgot that the WB cartoons were never meant ONLY for kids. They started as comedic shorts screened in movie theaters before the feature shows, to all audiences. So the "sAvE tHe ChiLDrEn" is useless here. Just because someone is poorly educated in animation history, doesn't make their opinion valid.
But even if they were aimed at younger audience, it would be OK. Because actually Pepé nearly always got punished for his romantic advances. Except a few episodes when he lost his skunk smell, and then it was Penelope herself who chased him - because probably the only thing she didn't like about him was that he stinks.
So these cancelist bastards probably don't even remember these cartoons correctly, and are only parroting Charles Blow's bullshit.
What frightens me the most, is that these people ALL watched them too - just like me. They fucking SEE that it didn't make them more sexist/racist/cruel/whatever people at all. But they STILL claim it did.
Like someone, I dunno, hypnotized them to believe such crap against their own experiences and common sense. Shivers down my spin, literally.
Yet we see Warner Bros treating these outlandish ridiculous claims seriously, instead of listening to the voices of reason. It is very sad.
But no matter how many characters the cancel crowd will make "officially" removed from projects by companies under their pressure, they CANNOT remove them from people's memories and hearts. <3
Cartoons featuring these characters still exist, and we their fans will still watch them, we will share them with others, we will make new fanarts with them. Comics, plushies, maybe even animations. And they have ABSOLUTELY NO POWER over this. Nobody has, even the companies which created them. Because once something entered the popculture, there's NO way back. The only thing the companies will achieve, is the loss of money they could earn on them.
And once they realize the demand for them is still huge after several years (which is highly possible, if Gen Z or the later one will get hit by some retro nostalgia wave :D), they will make them come back ASAP. xD Virtue signalling may be cool, but what Hollywood really loves is $$$.
The cancel crowd decided to start a very stupid war they are never gonna win. :D
In fact, they are already losing. You can see the animators from WB themselves, saying on Twitter (though very politely) that they are tired with shitstorms like this. You can read an interview with Whoopi Goldberg speaking against cancelling Pepe (she was often hired by editors to provide disclaimers to some old cartoons collections about their historical context, so she's pretty experienced in that area).
You can see hundreds of comments on Facebook, Youtube and Twitter by the average, often even very liberal folks, who are fed up with this bullshit.
Pepé Le Pew will likely finally end up like Speedy Gonzales. They tried this dirty trick with him before, but the actual Mexicans told them to shut up - because they love Speedy and treat him like their national mascot :D We, Pepé fans, were unfortunately too silent about it.
I strongly believe that we, though silent, are actually the majority. Even in my own gullible "millennial" generation. And the more absurdity the cancel crowd is pushing, the more people are opening their eyes to that.
You can already see their desperation, formerly they were going "whiney whiney, Pepé promotes rape, send us help!". Now it's "you boomer crybabies, man up, this is just one character". Really?... So if it's "just one character", why YOU clowns started this shitstorm at all? :D Your gaslight attempts are showing, fuckers.
Sorry if I get a little too much emotional about it. But this is quite personal issue for me. I remember that after my grandpa died when I was 6, the only thing that could cheer me up were these old WB cartoons. A LOT of them were with Pepe. They reminded me of him because he often watched them with me before. :/
What I'm saying is that the cancel crowd is not just trying to destroy one stupid cartoon skunk. They are trying to destroy many people's childhood memories, they are trying to destroy all not-yet-censored-and-sterilized comedy and other entertainment. Slowly turning our already sad AF reality into some even worse, dystopian nightmare.
Don't get tricked into thinking they do it because they care about sexual abuse victims. Because this is NOT how you fight sexual abuse. But to fight it, you need much more time, knowledge, courage and work spent on it. "Canceling" a cartoon skunk and calling the job done is easier though, and all they want is to feel good about themselves, without putting any real effort into anything.
What they are doing is just the new incarnation of 80s' Satanic Panic. And the moral panic of the 90s, when "boomers" were accusing video games and metal music for serial killings, school shootings, and literally all the evils of the world. And they laughed at them back then (and rightly so). But now they are doing exactly the same with cartoons. Bunch of pathetic hypocrites.
And they are not going to achieve any of their goals. There are ALWAYS more fans than haters, and we're gonna wake up from this "cancel culture" nightmare sooner than they think.
That's all (folks? :D) what I have to say about it. Sorry for a wall of text, sometimes I just need to rant a bit I guess. *hugs*
