Sunflash the Mace and Skarlath the Kestrel
***
Spoilers below for Outcast of Redwall if you haven’t read it yet, I know its an older book but new people pick up the series for the first time every day <3
***
Here I often gaze out o’er the seas,
When winter snows have gone to spring so fair,
Alone, except for butterflies and bees,
Remembering the times we used to share.
Not holding any friend on earth so true,
Upon my shoulder, good and faithful hawk,
O Skarlath, there was never one like you!
With a heavy heart I sit alone in grief,
Lord of the mountain, ruling over all.
Wishing I could split a single leaf,
To bring you back again, with our old call.
-Sunflash
Despite the everything wrong with Outcast of Redwall, Sunflash and Skarlath do their damndest to save the book with their wonderful freindship. Sunflash remains my favorite badgerlord in the whole series and this is one of the few books that has actually made me cry, and cry I did when Skarlath was slain and I felt Sunflash’s grief.
But there are no sad time here, as Sunflash and Skarlath take a stroll along the coast near Salamandastron enjoying one another’s company and protect and serve all the good beasts who look to them for help. Is this in the afterlife of the sunny valleys, brooks and meadows? Or just a memory? That’s up to you <3

Well, let's see it this way. At least in The Bellmaker we had finally a villain turned as a good character.
I understand that Brian Jacques wanted to keep his world "only white and black, no grey areas", but the idea of a "vermin" actually protecting Redwall would have been amazing.
Especially considering who Veil's father was. I mean, an ending battle against his father to protect his "new family" in Redwall would have been amazing to see.
He basically did mostly this concept but in reverse with Tagg. But Tagg was an otter so you could tell "which side he was".
Anyway you're probably right, we could write an essay very long about Veil

Anyway, let me drop you a watch ^^
Redwall was one of my fav books in my childhood and a little of the backstory of my sona is inspired from it (Starting from having a castle made of red sandstone). So, if you'll ever drop another marvelous fanart like this about it, I definitively don't wanna miss it
