Port Azure, the following morning.
After a much-needed night’s sleep, Minato was on his way to Volcan and Luke's shared home outside the borders of Azure. He had been to check the boat, making sure it was properly up to code in maintenance before he took it on such a long voyage. He had a personal mission to carry out, and though he was still healing from their most recent one he was eager to get started.
‘Sure hope I haven’t caught him while he’s sleeping,' he thought, and then rolled and eyes and shook his head. It always surprised him how late Volcan slept in, ever since they had resettled in Azure. He seemed glued to his pillow some days. 'If he keeps that up he'll get out of shape. Even if he was able to beat Sol, he's got to keep his edge. Maybe Victor can help him with that too.'
As he cleared the trees and reached the open ground where the house waited, nothing could have prepared him for the sight that awaited him. His heart fell into his stomach as he saw the house. If he'd been carrying anything in his paws at that moment, he'd have certainly dropped it. The roof of the house had caved in, with the entire top of the underground hovel having sunk into the earth, burying the interior.
“VOLCAN!” He screamed in horror, running up to the pile of rubble.
He was about to start digging into the rubble, but he soon stopped himself, letting rational thought take hold. He forced himself to calm, and shut his eyes, tuning to his Aura Sense – he couldn't help Volcan if he didn't start digging where he was. That is, if Volcan had survived the collapse...
To his relief, he sensed no aura trapped within the rubble, only traces of Volcan’s residual aura littered within the area of the collapsed house, traces that were many hours old... and not alone. Someone else had been in the house as well, he sensed. He had not been in contact with Luke often enough to really know the younger Lucario's aura off the top of his head, but he did not recognize the other signature regardless. Whoever it was, they had been in the house the same time as Volcan.
“Who the hell…?” Minato muttered, reverting to his regular senses and opening his eyes. He couldn’t make heads or tails about the situation at the moment, but one thing was clear. He had to warn the others. Quickly, he turned on his heel and began dashing as fast as he could through the woods, darting for the closest aura signal to his immediate vicinity.
