=====
When Captain Heroth departed, Rook was left with a sudden abundance of free time. The new Captain who replaced Heroth had no intentions of continuing his training, going so far as to bar him from ever stepping foot within the outpost; Stating that no children should be allowed on the premise, and without a mentor to watch him, Rook's caretakers forbade him from spending too long away from the village. Frustrated, Rook began to search for new ways to occupy his time when not practicing his swordsmanship. He tried to learn to read and write, a somewhat uncommon skill set among the Rito who favoured oral traditions over written words, but found few people willing to teach him. He asked his young friend Komogo to teach him to craft things, but only learned that an eight year old boy doesn't make for a good mentor. Frustrated, Rook eventually asked to help his foster mother with mealtime preparations, who was more than happy to oblige him.
It didn't take long for Rook to discover his new passion, by the next year, he had become quite adept around the cooking pot, sometimes preparing entire meals for his foster family by himself. He loved creating soups of all varieties, and would often forage for wild ingredients to bring home after a long afternoon of sword practice.
