When animals considered to be "prey" by the apex predators of the world begin to band together for safety, where does it leave those caught in between?
Namely, a pair of pine martens, carnivores and flesh-eaters themselves, but small enough to be considered food for the bears, wolves and gluttons of the forest and field. They're on a journey to seek sanctuary with the rabbits, squirrels and other prey that have gathered to Oren--but they don't know if welcome or condemnation will meet them.

heh
i gotta admit, i enjoy seeing Hemlock getting her ass handed to her...
not so high and mighty now with your badass spear if you can't surprise somebody from behind, are you, Hemlock?
hah!
Rask is probably gonna save her sorry ass so I really hope that this experience will be humbling to Hemlock.

well... we will see how serious that injury will be on the following pages.... yes.. pageS... adrenalin may allow him to act despite the injury yet still suffer from it afterwards...
...and considering all that led here... that nightmare.... that spear being pushed asside.. Yarrow biting Hemlocks hood (not knowing it and spending time/energy with it)...
...also... as a bunny, hemlock got strong hindlegs.. if she get a hold of Yarrow, she may fling him away to give her time to recover and still fight.

I'm not entirely sure Yarrow is toying with her. Looks to me as if he tried for a "head bite," she ducked, and he got a mouthful of headdress instead - which might confound him, since he presumably has no experience with clothing whatsoever, and might not know instinctually how to deal with it. This fight isn't over yet - although it will be, if Hemmy doesn't get her spear back real quick.
Hemlock doesn't seem very experienced in using a spear. First off the way she's holding it doesn't keep the weapon very stable. She should have one hand at the base and the other half way up the staff. She also seems to have gone for a thrust towards the head, or neck, and, unless Yarrow came at her on all fours, which, from the way he's dodging downward while on two legs to evade, doesn't seem to be the case, then she made an error. She should have aimed at his center of mass, giving her a better chance to actually make meaningful contact with his body. She might be better skilled in sneak attacks than anything else, with little to no real combat experience.
If I remember correctly, Oren was a part of a colony in a desert that discovered metal way before he joined this one. True that he's probably not a combat expert, and couldn't impart any knowledge of how to fight onto the colony he has now, but knowledge of these things also come from experience. They're incredibly basic, they just require minimal thought. Just holding, thrusting, and swinging a spear will lead you to the most optimal way to hold it for control, if that's your goal, and carving a set of mock-up targets into some trees may give you a good idea of how to handle an enemy if you make it even mildly anatomically correct. The problem is, without taking that time to train, gaining experience without knowledge going in is likely lethal for them, so ANY kind of training, drilling, or even just solo examination and exploration, would do more good than picking a spear up and instantly thinking they can take on the world.
Pine martens are weasels after all. They're very capable of fighting and good at dodging, and overwhelming their prey. Weasels can be vicious, so it doesn't surprise me that Yarrow can fight, even if he's never seen a spear before. He's intelligent enough to know that "pointy thing bad". Beyond that it's just avoidance and closing the gap.
I think It has more to do with the fact that Yarrow recognizes the spear as an external source of danger separate from Hemlock, like teeth or claws that are detachable from his opponent. In that way he doesn't fear her, OR the spear by extension because Hemlock is a rabbit, a prey animal to look down upon and eat, one that doesn't fight or can not kill a predator in a one-on-one scenario. Because of that, neither Hemlock or the spear are any meaningful threat. On the other note, in recognizing the real potential danger, Yarrow DOES take the spear from Hemlock, but as I pointed out in my initial post, Hemlock is not holding the spear in a stable manner. It may be difficult to disarm someone who is properly holding their weapon, but it doesn't seem as though Hemlock was.
I like Hemlock, so sad to see her get so much flack. She was really traumatized and being attacked by Yarrow kinda proves her point. Regardless of whether or not she was also aiming for Rask, she's got a point. I'm hoping she can learn and also come to terms with her traumas tho. You go Hemlock!
In this world predators kill prey tho, so killing predators to keep from being killed is justifiable in this world.
We as readers know Rask isn't going to kill anyone (I think at least), but Hemlock doesn't know this. I hope she can learn to trust Rask and find a way to cope with her trauma, but I just feel her response is reasonable for someone who's gone through what she has.

As much as I despise Hemlock, one thing is fact. She is a seasoned fighter she is not paralyzed by fear after Yarrow evaded her spear and got in close. In last panel there is not even a smidge if fear in hear eyes anymore (as was still the fact a few pages before) just surprise.
She is not down for the count and as nimble as Yarrow might be, hares have strong back legs and the marten is in a perfect position to get a massive kick in his midriff.
