While browsing through the internet I came upon a YouTube video called “Metal Knuckles: The Most Underutilized Sonic Character” from Game Apologist. In his video he discusses the various forms of robot doppelganger that exist within Sonic franchise. It’s a great video that I strongly suggest everyone go watch, it’s both informative and entertaining. His topic on Metal Knuckles in particular caught my attention since I have always been a big fan of Knuckles the Echidna and seeing him explore the various types of robot Knuckles inspired me to create this artwork. Granted I am not a really good artist, but I wanted to take a crack at designing my own version of Metal Knuckles while still staying close as possible to Yuji Uekawa original design. What set my version of Metal Knuckles apart from all the others is how I interpreted his iconic dread lock, I wanted to give it segment part that folds, bend, and lock into various poses like one of the those Anime Figma figure. Not only does this increase Metal Knuckles flexibility but it make him a dangerous opponent. I hope that one day we see the return of Metal Knuckles within the franchise, because just how Metal Sonic is built specifically to counter Sonic speed, Metal Knuckles should be design to counter Knuckles power. Here’s hoping that within Sonic 30 anniversary Sega remember this Metal Knuckles and consider adding into more sonic related thing like game, comics, and cartoons.
