I used to have one of these, bought it in 2007 and sold it in 2015. Had I known the person who bought it planned on doing horrible things like painting the stock with a textured paint I wouldn't had sold it to them.

Original wood stocks are the best. I used to have an SKS (sans bayonet) with a Dragunov-style FiberForce stock. It was one of those aftermarket conversion jobbers with detachable mags (but not AK mags due to the different magazine well, more's the pity). Have you ever seen one of those rare types with a fixed 20-round mag AND an original wood stock? Those are some of the best. Or at least some of the most sought after. No doubt because they're rare.

Do you prefer a blade bayonet or a spike bayonet?

SKS have floating firing pins, so make sure there is no cosmoline left of you could be in for a surprise.

Friend of mine had an M59/66 and forgot that part, so when we went to the range I had no probls with min ( what a great rifle ) and his went BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRM as soon as he slapped the bolt forward

First i was choosing between 3 options:

The AMD-65M

The FN FAL

The Zastava M-59/66.

I will go with the M-59/66 and maybe add it some modifications, of course, nothing too drastic.

Like stock and removable mag like I had on my yugo sks?

I am trying to decide on what to do with the Stock, since i really love the default wooden stock that the Yugo has, a removable mag of 20 rounds, a Picatinny rail system so optics can be integrated, a longer barrel to increase the fire range of the bullet, replace the bayonet by a fonding bypod, basically, turn the SKS into a DMR.

Damn.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... maybe do some sort of combination betwen the two designs, i mean, the SVT wasn't that effective neither, it had the issue with the clips falling down and was not very reliable from what i heard.

Looked it up and it says it’s most effective within 200 yards and max is 400 yards cause it’s a heavy bullet without a big charge of powder. So it drops quickly.

Another rifle you could use is a PSL or a dragunov. Just giving you some other possible options.

Same range as the Ak-47 or other rifles that uses the same cartridge... it's more ment for assault and medium distances.

The Character is a gunsmith and gun broker/dealer, so.... she is able to make modifications to her weapons, maybe i could grab the Yugo and modified to fire the 7.62x54 Rmm rounds, and it will be a mix betwen the SKS and the SVT-40.

I want to have a mix betwen old and new type of weapon xD Dragunovs and PSL are kind of "mainstream" and you can see pics of characters using those around.

Could have them chamber a sks in 308 or even 6.5 creedmoor. Give it more range.

I’d say 308 or 7.62x51 nato is the most common for dmr 6.5 creedmoor will carry further and be more accurate at a long distance. At shorter ranges though the 308 packs more of a punch but loses it’s velocity faster so at longer ranges a 6.5 creedmoor will have more energy.
