Every now and then Ria will pick up quest and jobs from adventurer board listings when mercenary work is slow. Got to make money somehow when there is no war to be fought and this request seemed to interesting to ignore. It was a call for the investigation of a town that had been deserted for many years but had recently had reports of movement and signs of life. It seemed like an easy task. Travel there and gather information of whatever squatters had set up house. Then decide is they needed to be evicted or left alone. But as Ria reached the silent city and uneasy feeling rested on her mind. Something didn't feel right. The town was obviously lifeless. No fires had been lit in years and nothing but rats had moved in or out of these houses in days. But she couldn't help feel like shadows were following her and that something or someone was watching her move through the abandoned settlement with a watchful glare. The feeling made her grip on her axe tighten causing its runes to glow to life and make the weight of the weapon utterly vanish.
As she made her way around the church to the west side the gaze felt like it had become much more intense. Something was definitely watching her and it didn't like how far she was going into the town. As she came around a building caught her attention immediately. It looked to be little more than a garden shack. But it was much more dilapidated than the rest of the town. Ria raised her torch as she got closer. The scent of old blood was thick in the air and it stabbed at her nose. As she got to the doorway she noticed three bodies lying on the floor. All three had been split open at the gut and their innards used to form a hellish looking ritual pattern on the ground around them. Before she could set a foot through the doorway she heard something move behind her making a scraping sound as if claws on stone. She turned away from the door to see scaring across the wall behind her. Her eyes narrowed as a feeling of bloodlust flooded the area around her. Something doesn't like that I found its secret. Ria thought to herself as a piercing screech rang from the church. Like a hellish bell at the strike of midnight.
I hope you enjoyed my little bit of writing there. Its been a good bit since ive written and it feels so off. But I couldn't let this piece go with out some sort of story or exposition.
