The summit of this volcanic crater has always been a discrete place to dump off excess slag, despite the absurdity and apparent dangers of the operation. The down-the-mountain coastal steel mills move the slag up most of the slope with rolling stock, and the ladles are transferred to the usual short-range transportation tractors. This is costly, and not really worth a company's time... Yet for some reason operators feel the need to do this...
A strange feeling, not one of this world for sure. Some say there is a kind-yet-ominous spirit that visits the crater from time to time that accepts the slag as an offering. Some don't come back...
Some don't come back... They stay with it forever... Along with company property - how unfortunate and costly.
Yet her hot breath is inviting, everything burns. Metal melts... It all melts. Equipment melts, money melts...
Their spirits melt, it's fun roiling with the molten glaze of mantle caverns far below. From maintaining steel, to melting steel and maintaining the magnetic field. Yet it all comes back, and is refined again!
