After I don't know how many years, I'd finally got to see a Cicada emerge from its shell. Watched it for 15 minutes, taking images periodically Taken during Summer 2020

Eastern US is supposed to get hit with the 17 year variety this year... There's different broods of them - why you hear about the in the news a bit more often than 17 years.

Heh, more of camera angle thing. I wanted a good close up with my phone, but it shows off the Cicada leaving the nymph skin quite well, it was more like it was hanging back from the skin. those two lights in the background should be horizontal

First time in my life I'd actually got to watch one do that change. I'd find them already out of the shell and drying.

Nice! Today I saw a small woodpecker on the trunk of a tree in my front yard, not quite as big as a robin.

Love those birds, so many varieties of them. I'm in Arizona and there are some that nest in the big cactus south of where I live.

Yeah! There's at least eleven here in Washington state, according to a quick search trying to identify it. Narrowed it down to two similar species, either the Downy or the Hairy woodpecker. I like the big cactus, they support a lot of species and not just birds!
