I don't know why, but even though the bar always had the TV on, they never had it set on any channel. The owner did strike me as the sort of man who still think the VCR is frightingly high-tech though, perhaps that explains it. I've been there several times over what must be at least half a decade, and every time I've seen this bunny girl sit at the edge of the bar, staring blankly into the screen. I've watched the baggy wrinkles under her eyes get bigger and more numerous and I've seen something gradually disappear form her eyes, I dunno what. Hope, maybe.
I don't think anyone noticed her, not even the bartender bothered to talk to her, he just refilled her Martini glass every once in a while and she'd produce a bill from her purse. I wanted to talk to her, I really did, but it felt like I'd break some sort of spell if I did that.
She wasn't in here today, I asked the bartender, but he just grunted at me. I sat down at her old place, and the television chaught my eye. I don't think anyone else ever noticed it, but the pattern was glitchy. Something in the test card moved, fluidly, not jagged like a glitch, and I could catch a hint of those familiar bunny ears. A soft white noise emitted from the televisions built-in loudspeaker, and I could hear the hint of words within the garbled sounds: "Come... in.... come... in... come in..."
