They were, in themselves, no different than the blue eyes of a common woman, but they hid something indescribable in the limited tongue of mortals. If the eyes are windows into a person’s soul, then I saw a woman capable of great sadness and great joy, a woman who truly deserves the majesty her name is synonymous with. She showed little emotion the entire time we spoke, but each feeling that came to me seemed to exist simply from her presence. I soon forgot the business that brought me to her chamber and basked in the exchange of each word.

Ok, I'm asking for an advanced critique on this one partially because this may end up just being the color sketch of a larger painting, and I'm wondering what you guys think of it so far. What do you think of the quality, specifically, putting aside the nature of the picture itself and focusing just on it's construction and painting/inking?
This is another speed paint -- actually a speed picture if you will. From blank page to sketch to inking to painting to finish this took me 4 hours. It was a challenge laid down to see what I could turn out, and overall considering the time frame I'm very happy with it. I of course could pick at it all day, and again I'll probably turn this into a more detailed pic later, but I wanted to get everyone's view on it as if this was the finished piece.
Line art and final lighting in Adobe -- everything else in Painter. God bless that program. *hugs*

Okay... I'll offer what little I can.
As far as composition goes, I feel that her face is uncomfortably close to dead centre. And because Veia is of primary interest, her reflection is secondary, and the background is tertiary, it might be a good idea to move her just a bit more to the right-hand side of the frame (which is probably where she would be positioned if you were following any principle as formal as a golden section).
Moving her slightly to the right would allow you to reduce the empty space in the frame behind her, while still conveying a hint of background; and it would increase the space available to the mirror and to her reflection (which in the current set-up is "crushed" against the left-hand side of the image frame).
The other element that really sticks out is anatomical: her waist and pelvis are extremely thin in proportion to her torso, and the way that her rib-cage "sits" upon her abdomen is not very convincing. The arms, too, seem disproportionate, especially the right; the shortness of the upper arms and the abbreviated width of the unusually small shoulders might be the cause of this problem, but I suspect the disproportionate torso might be the major issue to resolve.
Well... I certainly hope my comments have done more good than harm!

Actually, out of all the critiques I've gotten on this piece this one was one of the most insightful. I actually took a second glance at the pic and said to myself "holy crap...she *is* dead center...doh?"
I had originally planned more of a background for it, but due to time constraints I chose to omit it and never moved her over at all. I've also gotten the comment about the waist thing in other critiques, so I'll be paying attention to that in the future.
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment!

Verily it surprises me this has gotten some views yet...not ONE comment...allow me to be the first to comment on the beautiful piece of art as while I was browsing it caught my eye in an instant.

Flawless color work you have done on thie piece I MUST say, your skills with coloting are very apparent with your choices between the lights and the darks allowing for some very vivd looking colors that attract the eye. The shading is also top notch with a hint of some VERY impressive painting like touches that really give this picture a look like a fifteenth centrury painting (if of course you were going to a portrait look you hit the nail right on the head) The pose is fantastic and is very poetic and gives off a very powerful show of emotion from just a simple pose. The character is well drawn out and shows your NOT lacking in the imaginataion department with some very imaginative detailing like the tatoo under the eye that reminds me of egyptian royalty as they were the only ones allowed these sacred markings. The whole theme is very submerssive and atmospheric as it gives off a sense of fantasy with the whole theme backing it up. Excellent excution of this piece is also to be noted as I saw you paid close attention to the line works in thie piece and as well as the background work was well done just so to compliment the piece more.
With all this siad I think this piece deserves to be noted at least by SOMEONE who has the ability to say something about this picture that NEEDS to be said
Most excellent work with a lot of time and patience devoted to your workings I am VERY impressed with this lost little treasure and lo...you have yourself a new watcher.

Some of the most wonderful and frightening things we could ever see, we see in the reflection of our own eyes.
Ok bad attempt at being poetic. Woot love this pic! The only real critique I could say (not that I have any room to talk) the tapestry in the background maybe jumps out just a little too much. I noticed that before I noticed the reflection. OMFG why did I not fav this yet?
